A reputable Commercial Bank in Zambia is seeking to recruit self-motivated, enthusiastic and innovative persons to fill the following position:

CHIEF RISK OFFICER

S/he will perform the responsibility of:

  • Managing, directing and determining the strategy for the bank’s risk management functions.
  • Provide ongoing assessments to bank management and the Board Audit and Risk Committees on the adequacy of internal controls as well as general and specific bank risks including but not limited to credit risk, market risk, liquidity risk and operational risks.
  • Provides accurate and ongoing independent assessments to bank management and the Board Audit and Risk Committees on the quality of the bank’s assets and systems for internal controls through the Internal Audit and Asset Review functions.
  • Preparation and approval of the annual budget and operating plan, to both management and the Board Audit Committee, with specific details of Enterprise Risk, Internal Audit and Asset Review programs.
  • Works with other units of the bank to ensure that the Credit System Cooperation Philosophy is successfully implemented. Participates in the System-wide Risk Management Committee Workgroup.
  • Serve as liaison with the Group office to articulate strategy and execution to continuously improve the enterprise-wide risk management capabilities of a large and complex bank in the context of high and rising risk management needs and regulatory expectations.
  • Chairing the Enterprise Risk Committee responsible for contributing to the annual portfolio strategy and providing guidance on portfolio management
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification:

  • A good first degree in finance, economics or business administration and/or MBA, CFA, CPA or other risk related designations desirable.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive relevant experience, 5 of which must have been at management level

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of risk management concepts including but not limited to credit risk, market risk, operational risk, internal audit and asset review.
  • Broad knowledge of risk management techniques, functions and best practices in a commercial bank regulatory environment.
  • Ability to relay risk management concepts to executives, board members and associates or equivalent using a combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management, staff and board of directors.
  • Broad knowledge of credit and financing structures, complex financial structuring, and troubled credit resolution.
  • Broad knowledge of market risk concepts and balance sheet risk.
  • Ability to develop and manage processes to motivate staff to achieve desired results.
  • Excellent general leadership, financial management, negotiation, communication, decision making and human relations skills.
  • Banking Operations/Financial Industry Knowledge
