The University as an equal opportunity employer invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the positions of Management Accountant in the Finance Department reporting to the Bursar.
Job Purpose:
To prepare timely management reports in order to provide information to aid decision making, ensure growth and long term sustainability of the institution and improve value by managing, reducing operational and investment costs by implementing the most effective cost management strategies.
Key Accountabilities
- Gather and analyze financial and non-financial information for internal reporting.
- Responsible for all internal reporting including management reports, variance analysis, and financial forecasts.
- Designing and formulating annual budgeting and budgetary control.
- Assist the Bursar in managing the university’s investment portfolio.
- Assume responsibility of accounting procedures and ensuring data integrity of the general ledger.
- Evaluate and report the university’s performance using key data and recommend corrective action.
- Preparation of forecasts to assist business planning and decision-making.
- Conduct risk assessment of the university’s investments and advise on ways to minimize risk and maximize returns.
- Perform a cost benefit analysis on university’s income generating ventures.
- Supervision of Fixed Asset Management in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and internal policies.
- Liasing with the Financial Accountant on any technical issues pertaining to the preparation of financial statements and external audits.
- Reviewing and consolidation of monthly, quarterly and yearly Units’ management accounts.
- Develop and enforce budgetary control mechanism for the Institution to create on-going cash forecast as well as ensuring that institutional targets are met.
- Supervise subordinate staff in finance personnel.
Qualifications I Required Experience
- Grade 12 certificate with 5 ‘O’ level credits or better including Mathematics and English Language
- Full ACCA or CIMA or its equivalent.
- Minimum five (5) years working experience in a similar position with minimum of three (3) years at senior management level. Experience in an education institution will be an added advantage.
- Must be a member of ZICA.
Required Competencies and Behavioural Attributes
- Solid knowledge of basic and advanced accounting and financial principles and practices
- Excellent knowledge of financial management, budgeting and forecasting
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Good supervisory skills.
