Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) Zambia

Position: Project Officer x 1

The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) Zambia is a Christian, Membership, Non-partisan, Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) dedicated to the empowerment of the community (especially women, youth and children) to contribute to the attainment of a just society through rights-based approaches and sustainable interventions. YWCA envisions a safe, gender sensitive Zambia with equal opportunities and good quality of Life. The organisation’s works aims at contributing towards the implementation International and Regions Human Rights treaties on Gender such as the Beijing Platform for Action, Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women, SADC Protocol on Gender and Development and  National plans, Laws and policies such as the Seventh National Development Plan, National AIDS Strategic Framework, vision 2030, Gender Policy and the Gender Equity and Equality Act, In addition, YWCA also works towards actualization of the World YWCA Vision which states that “By 2035, 100 million young women and girls transform power structures to create justice, gender equality and a world without violence and war; leading a sustainable YWCA movement, inclusive of all women.”

Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in Social Sciences or any related field; Minimum 5 years experience in development work in the NGO sector; Strong proven track record in project management; Experience working on gender and women’s empowerment programming; Experience working in communities and with Community Based Organisations; Experience as a trainer.

Key Competencies

Computer literate, Good oral and written communication; Ability to multi task, Strong Analytical and report writing skills; honest and sober disposition; Fluency in English (both written and oral); knowledge of predominant Zambian languages in Copperbelt is an added advantage.
