World University Rankings

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2012-2013 judge world class universities across all of their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

The top universities rankings employ 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available, which are trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments.

The top 10 is one again dominated by US universities with 7 out of 10 in the USA (the remainder of the top 10 was made up of UK universities).

There were just 4 universities in Africa inside the top 400 and all are based in South Africa. The University of Cape Town was judged the leading African university at 113.
