DAPP Zambia

Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) is inviting suitably qualified and experienced persons to apply for two (02) positions of  Driver on a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) sponsored project, operational in Southern and Central Provinces of Zambia. The project’s focus is on supporting Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC’s) through integrated household and community approaches.

Job summary

To transport staff, ZAMFAM’s partners and stakeholders as well as goods safely and efficiently.

The positions will be based in Kabwe.

Job title: Driver

Location  Kabwe, with frequent travel to various project sites

Project/Dept.: ZAMFAM South Central

Reporting relationships: Reports to the Head Driver

Duties and essential job functions

  • Ensure that the vehicle is in road worthy condition before it is used, by having it serviced and repaired if necessary
  • Delivers materials and personnel to instructed destinations
  • Perform routine checks of oil, fuel, battery, and clutch fluid and water levels in the radiator every day
  • Ensures that there is spare wheel, Jack, spanners, triangles, fire extinguishers, first aid box etc in the vehicle at the beginning and end of each day
  • Cleans the vehicle both inside and outside at before each journey or end of each day, before handing over the vehicle keys to the responsible person
  • Reports any maintenance requirements to the Head Driver as soon as it is identified
  • Ensures the passengers take safety precautions before any journey begins e.g by wearing seat belts
  • Keeps updated with the operations mechanism of the vehicle
  • Keeps updated with and observes motor vehicle policy of the organisation
  • Keeps up to date with any changes in road traffic regulations
  • Ensures that every journey is recorded in the Motor Vehicle Log book
  • Ensure that the vehicle is serviced each time it travels 5000 kilometres
  • Ensures that the vehicle is driven for official duties only, during authorised times only

Qualifications

  • Completion of 12 years of Education ordinary education
  • Valid Class C1 Driver’s Licence
  • Valid Police Clearance Report
  • Basic knowledge of motor vehicle mechanics
  • High level of personal integrity
  • At least two (02) years of driving experience

Preferred qualities

  • Of sober character
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective member of a team
  • Ability and willingness to work extra hours
  • Have integrity
