Job Rationale:

A fast growing livestock company is seeking to employ an Assistant Project Manager who will be responsible for a broad portfolio of livestock and agronomic projects and partnerships. He/She will be expected to interact effectively with senior levels of partner organizations and work collaboratively to co-develop projects for the growth and sustainability of the Company’s profitability and market share.

To plan, budget, coordinate implementation and ensure achievement of project milestones and goals including compliance to partner and the company’s policy requirements to enable the company to achieve strategic goals and set revenue targets in line with the strategic plan of the company.

As such, the successful candidate must be highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and results-oriented. He/She will have strong listening skills and ability to build deep and effective relationships with internal and external clients.

Key performance areas:

  1. Identify, develop and recommend projects for funding including conducting field visits and due diligence of potential beneficiaries and partners, and reviewing project design and budgets.
  2. Identify and build relationships with partner organisations and stakeholders including participating in relevant partnership meetings
  3. Facilitate the identification, designing and implementing of appropriate project specific training needs for implementation partners, staff and target beneficiaries. This may include conducting and contributing to regular coordination meetings for farmer capacity building trainings for new technologies and products.
  4. Assign duties to staff and liaise with consultants to implement project goals, as needed including supervising and providing technical support in project activities.
  5. Ensure efficient utilization and full accountability for project resources including assisting with procuring required items necessary for completing project goals in line with policies, systems and procedures.
  6. Assist project manager to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate approved activities as per programs design as well as conduct regular and ongoing technical monitoring of and reporting on project activities, ensuring adherence to the company policy and project guidelines.
  7. Design and collection of M & E data and produce reports as well as support the identification of project beneficiaries in line with programme deliverables and documents.
  8. Prepare work-plans and progress reports (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly and quarterly) as defined by the project guidelines.
  9. Communicate progress and learnings from projects to colleagues and the wider partnership organization through learning reports and briefs.

Position Requirements:   

Education:    Bachelors’ degree in Economics, Agric. Economics, Agriculture or any related field is required

Experience:  Minimum 3 years relevant experience in project management, field experience and/or experience in engaging smallholders and working with rural and agricultural households will be highly valued.

Qualities:

  • Substantive knowledge of key issues and emerging trends in livestock marketing.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written. Fluency in other local languages relevant to the work is also desirable.
  • Ability to travel internationally and locally.
  • Computer literacy, MS Outlook, Word, Excel
