Position: Database Administrator

Department: Information Technology

Organisational relationships: Reports to the Information Technology Manager

Position Objective

To provide first line IT support to AB Bank’s Database environment and core banking software with the appropriate supervision, guidance and advice of the IT Manager and other key IT Staff.

Key responsibility areas

Database Management

  • Create, update and restore databases.
  • Run predefined database scripts and create database queries.
  • Monitoring and maintenance of the bank’s business applications i.e. ensuring that maintenance plans and Audit logs are running smoothly.
  • Perform periodical database backup activities.
  • Generate daily, weekly and monthly reports.
  • Application and Database Asset/Inventory Management.

Web Management

  • Maintain ABZ websites and intranet.
  • Review the website design with the website vendor.
  • Generate and revise web pages with other key stakeholders within the bank.
  • Ensure the security of the websites against hackers
  • Regulate and manage access rights of different users on website.

Business Application Solutions

  • As part of succession planning; work with the Enterprise Application Officer as 1st level support for business applications.
  • Build custom applications, reports and dashboards to support business operations.
  • Supervise application support and development from vendors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience /Competencies

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree (Engineering/ Computer Science or equivalent)
  • 1-2 years working experience in IT
  • Strong computer programming skills with experience with SQL, MYSQL, HTML, XML, DOT NET, C#, PHP, and JavaScript skills required
  • Basic Understanding of Bank operations
  • Excellent analytical skills including the ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical users.
  • Must be proactive and have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues and end users.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally in English
  • Flexibility and operational readiness, willingness to continuous learning new technologies and methodology.
