Working in Zambia since 1996, Plan International Zambia’s development and capacity building programmes focus primarily on Education, Health, Water and Sanitation, Economic Security and Youth Empowerment, including Child Protection and Participation. Plan International Zambia has Programme Areas in; Central, Luapula, and Eastern Provinces including in Lusaka, where the Country Office is located.

Plan International Zambia is looking for experienced, innovative, motivated, self-starter individuals to fill the following position:

Accounts Assistant – 2 Year Contract – Luapula Program Area (Mansa)

Position Description:

The position reports to the Finance and Administration Coordinator.  The Accounts Assistant’s main role is to perform various accounting responsibilities as delegated by the Finance and Administration Coordinator in order to provide all necessary financial information of the Program Unit This position is a support position that enables the Programs to achieve their results by providing necessary Finance support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of cheques/transfers based on complete and accurately coded payment packages.
  • Prepare cash receipts for all income received.
  • Prepare timely intercompany re-charges and pass to relevant offices.
  • Prepare advance reconciliations
  • Responsible for the coordination of banking activities for the Program Unit to ensure accountability for all banking transactions done for the Program Unit and specifically does the following activities:
  • Ensure all signed cheques are distributed on time and transfer letters delivered to the Bank.
  • Resolve all outstanding issues on Bank reconciliations
  • The incumbent is responsible for filling all financial records to ensure easy access and for record keeping enabling easy referencing by the auditors and any external use required.

Child Protection and Risk Management

  • Ensure that only payments to where all appropriate suppliers have signed the Child Protection policy pass for payment
  • Identify key risks within your area of operation and put in appropriate control measures to manage them.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Certificate in Accounting
  • Higher National Diploma in Accounting or equivalent qualification will be an added advantage
  • 2 years’ experience in a similar role in an NGO environment
  • Proficient in computer skills and use of relevant accounting packages
  • Analytical skills.
