ActionAid Zambia (AAZ) is part of the ActionAid Global (AAG) Federation; sharing common values and aims to drive social change towards a just, equitable and sustainable world. AAZ works with marginalized and excluded women and young people, their organizations and movements to address the structural causes of social injustice, gender inequality and poverty.

ActionAid Zambia has been awarded a project focusing on women’s rights and therefore is seeking to recruit an experienced and suitably qualified individual to fill the position of Programmes Officer – Women’s Rights.

Purpose of the Role

The job holder shall be responsible for leading successful integration and promotion of women’s rights within AAZ’s programme thematic areas in line with the Country Strategy Paper. The job holder shall demonstrate ambition and desire to promote feminism as an ideology, an approach to programming and a part of the organizational culture; driving the values and approaches of AAZ’s programming from a feminist perspective.

The holder will also be expected to build the capacity of staff and partners; women and girls from communities living in poverty and exclusion to gain the power to secure their rights through conceptualizing, designing and mobilizing resources and implementing women-focused interventions.

Accountabilities

Key Activities

  • Support in designing programmatic and policy initiatives for the advancement of women’s rights at both local, national and international levels;
  • Working closely with the Programmes and Fundraising unit leads in raising resources for implementing initiatives under the women’s rights Strategic Objective;
  • Supporting the preparation of periodic reports (monthly, quarter, semi-annually and annually) on women rights related projects as required by various donors, ensuring quality and timeliness;
  • Organizing initiatives for building capacity of partners and staff on various programme and policy areas related to women rights;
  • Facilitate and support research efforts linked to women’s rights issues; generating evidence to guide evidence-based campaigns on women’s rights;
  • Support in the development and implementation of strategies, plans and procedures that address identified women rights issues within AAZ programmes in line with CSP, LRPs and Partners
  • Support programmes in the preparation of policy papers on women rights and in undertaking campaign and policy advocacy;
  • Participate in women rights fora at LRPs, National, regional and international levels;
  • Development and maintenance of a women right’s events calendar; and coordinate with Communications and campaigns to plan for strategic advocacy engagements on women’s rights.
  • Coordinate the successful implementation of the ‘one global campaign’ in line with the AAZ’s programmatic and policy initiatives aimed at achieving social justice and equality
  • Prepare and oversee wide strategic distribution and sharing of timely and accurate documentation of lessons learnt to promote women rights;
  • Perform any other lawful duties that you may be assigned from time to time in relation to women rights work
  • Coordinate the successful implementation of the ‘one global campaign’ in line with the AAZ’s programmatic and policy initiatives aimed at achieving social justice and equality

Person Specifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in gender, Development studies, Law or other related social sciences from a recognized University;
  • A minimum of seven (3) years post-academic experience in women rights programme management;
  • Demonstrable experience in leading and working within influential coalitions and networks;
  • Demonstrable experience in advocacy and campaigns on women rights;
  • Demonstrable experience in building capacity of partners and staff on women’s rights;
  • Experience of managing partnership relationships; and
  • Understanding of different donor requirements and ways of working.
