Background

African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization committed to the rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks. We collaborate with governments and local communities to ensure the sustainability of these parks. Currently, we manage 23 national parks and protected areas across 13 countries, spanning over 20 million hectares in Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Job Purpose

The Education Officer will be responsible for demonstrating competency in the following key areas:

Key Responsibilities

Work closely with schools to integrate conservation education into curricula.
Assist schools in implementing and managing conservation club projects.
Promote conservation education within communities surrounding the National Park.
Coordinate and harmonize conservation education activities with schools and local partners.
Organize and facilitate workshops and events to foster engagement among schools and community members.
Facilitate educational tours for local schools, as well as higher education institutions, including colleges and universities.
Oversee and monitor the expansion of Mwabu and Happy Readers education programs within the Greater Kafue Ecosystem (GKE).
Support the growth and development of conservation clubs in GKE schools.
Identify key partners and tailor education approaches to suit local needs.
Monitor the progress and impact of education initiatives.
Prepare regular reports on activities, outcomes, and provide recommendations for improvements.

Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Education, Sustainability, or a related field.
At least 5 years of experience in education or environmental education.
Proven experience in developing and implementing environmental education programs.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in an accessible manner.
Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with schools and educational institutions.
Knowledge of environmental issues such as air and water pollution, climate change, and wildlife conservation.
Proficiency in digital education tools and platforms.
A valid driver’s license.
