1. Background

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international charity, using media and communication to help people across the world. Its mission is to inform, connect, and empower communities through innovative storytelling and digital engagement. Social media plays a critical role in achieving these objectives by reaching diverse audiences, fostering discussions, and amplifying impactful stories.

2. Purpose of the Role

The Assistant Online Content Producer is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the organization’s social media strategy. This includes creating content, engaging audiences, monitoring performance, and ensuring alignment with the overall communication and projects goals.

3. Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Online Content Producer will be responsible for creating and managing high-quality, engaging content that aligns with the organisation’s brand identity and to reach youths effectively. Staying updated with industry trends and platform algorithm changes will be essential to optimize engagement and performance.

Engaging with the online community is another crucial aspect of this role. The officer will monitor and respond to comments, messages, and mentions in a professional and timely manner to foster meaningful interactions. Additionally, collaboration with influencers and partners will be encouraged to expand audience reach and enhance brand presence.

Tracking and analyzing social media performance will form an integral part of the responsibilities. Using analytics tools, the officer will generate monthly reports with insights and recommendations for improvement.

The Officer will also oversee advertising and promotional efforts by planning and managing paid social media campaigns. Ensuring that these campaigns are optimized to achieve desired engagement and conversion goals will be a priority.

4. Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience in producing youth focused social media content
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and analytics tools.
  • Ability to break down complex governance terms and policies
  • Experience in scripting social media content
  • Ability to support partner radio stations in social media and editorial production.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and graphic design skills.
  • Familiarity with social media content production tools (e.g. Canva, Cap cut, photoshop).
  • Able to film and edit videos for social media.
  • Experience in paid social media advertising is a plus.
