Beit CURE Hospital

Provides Specialty Medical Treatment in Orthopaedics & ENT

Christian Blind Mission & Beit Cure Zambia Partnership

The Beit Cure Hospital Zambia (BCH) is a recognized pediatric teaching hospital that provides free treatment to children with treatable Orthopedic and Ear, Nose & Throat conditions.

Project description

The BCH working with the Christian Blind Mission (CBM) with funding from the German Government Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) are currently implementing a project focusing on “Strengthening ENT & Audiological Services in Zambia” primarily being implemented in the Southern Province.

Rationale of this study

Hearing impairments are accompanied by a high degree of exclusion, more difficult social and economic participation and hence an increased risk of poverty. About half of the hearing impairments could be prevented or their effects mitigated by medical and rehabilitative measures. A fundamental challenge is that similar to other contexts the focus in ENT is on Nose and Throat diseases with the alienation of the Ear diseases due to very limited data, experience, resources and activities on ear related diseases in Zambia. At the same time however, an increasing number of actors is becoming active in the ENT sector and Audiology space and this requires strategic orientation. Being key actors in the field, CBM and BCH were recently asked by the MoH to support the collection and analysis of epidemiological data as a basis for planning Ear and Hearing Health Services in the country. It is therefore on the premise provided above that BCH and CBM have set out to engage the services of a Consultant to facilitate and conduct a Prevalence survey, primarily focusing on Ear Related Diseases Only.
