Ministry of Agriculture

The Ministry of Agriculture has received financing from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) toward the cost of the Smallholder Productivity Promotion Programme (S3P),  and intends to apply part of the proceeds of the financing to activities and investments aimed at strengthening Farmer Organisations and their Federations in Luapula, Muchinga and Northern Provinces. Such activities and investments include capacity building of, among others, Farmer Organisations, District Cooperative Unions and Primary Cooperative Societies. Part of the effort to build capacity of the cooperatives is through the engagement of Managers and Book-Keepers for two (02) District Cooperative Unions in Kawambwa and Mbala Districts and two (02) Primary Cooperatives in Chinsali District.

The Four Cooperatives in conjunction with the Department of Cooperatives now, therefore, invite applications from suitably qualified Zambian nationals to fill the following vacancies:

BOOK KEEPER (4 POSITIONS)

Location: Kawambwa (01), Mbala (01), Chinsali (02)
Contract duration: One (01) Year

JOB PURPOSE:

To attend to the day-to-day management of the books of accounts in order to attain financial viability and efficient service delivery outlined in the union’s By Laws and Strategic and Business Plan.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will report to the Manager of the Organization and will perform the following functions:

  • Ensure that the society’s funds, documents and securities are kept under safe custody
  • Keep track of financial transactions of the organisation so as to ensure that money earned and spent is properly accounted
  • Ensure that transactions are recorded in the correct General Ledger books to ease reporting , monitoring and control
  • Keep full and accurate accounts of all receipts and payment in the books of the organisation
  • Make such payments from the funds of the organisation as may be authorised by the manager
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial quarterly reports
  • Undertake all banking errands
  • Prepare bank reconciliations on a monthly basis
  • Prepare financial statements for audit
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12 full Certificate which should include Mathematics and English
  • Certificate or Diploma in Accounting
  • Between 25 and 35 Years of Age
  • Must be a Zambian national and ready to reside in the area of operation
  • A minimum of 2 Years post qualification experience in a similar capacity
  • Must be a Member of ZICA

OTHER ATTRIBUTES

  • Must be self-motivated, goal oriented, analytical and fluent in the English language, both written and oral;
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Must be able to work under minimum supervision
