Job Purpose

The Commodities Trader will develop and set up soft commodity sourcing and trading strategy. Take the lead in the development, setting and implementation of the Company’s commodity sourcing strategy;

Summary of Key Responsibilities;

  • Compile an annual income budget detailing volumes, counterparties, margins and indicative cash flows required to meet the budget;
  • Maintain and develop sales opportunities while adhering to credit, quality, and cash risk limits; monitor national and international markets as well as negotiate price, specification, and delivery details.
  • Negotiate price/delivery, write up logistical documents, contracts, applications, hedging transactions, and final settlements; adhering to trading and risk position limits.
  • Negotiating, Contracting, Coordinating, and Optimisation of the Commodity business of the Company;
  • Build and maintain relations with key industry customers, suppliers and service providers (brokers, transporters), through frequent visits and regular market information and other communications;
  • Get involved in hedging operations, FX covers, and risk mitigation procedures;
  • Manage and Maintain Client contacts and Contract management process;
  • Assistance with any functions as requested by the CEO.

  • Strong analytical skills, should be able to accept and manage complexity and uncertainty, and be able to act independently and take responsibility;

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics, Business or related
  • At least a minimum of 4+ years of experience in Agriculture Commodity trading
  • Must have PROVEN work experience trading in Maize, Wheat, Soybean, Soyacake, Groundnuts, Maize Bran, Sunflower and Molasses
  • Knowledge and relevant experience in the grains, oilseeds, and Soybeans market;
  • Must have an in-depth fundamental knowledge of the physical soft commodities market, including product knowledge, price drivers, customers, suppliers, storage, and logistics, with a proven track record of executing profitable transactions.
  • Working knowledge of the entire commodity life cycle; from producer to consumer.
  • Must have Knowledge and relevant experience in FX covers, and risk mitigation procedures;
  • Working knowledge of the basics of commodity transportation entering and exiting an elevator.
  • Must have vast Commodity market experience for Zambia and Southern Africa
