WWF Zambia

WWF Zambia has a conservation strategy that directs its conservation delivery from 2015 to 2020 and this is now at the mid-point for its review in line with WWF International standards. We are looking for an accomplished strategic thinker and an operational planning expert to take our ideas and convert them into a high quality WWF Zambia revised country conservation strategy with clarity on what impacts we want to deliver and supporting human and financial structures to deliver the desired impacts.

Broad Objective of the Strategic Plan review consultancy

To develop a revised strategy of WWF Zambia by March 30, through a participatory process and based on WWF international guidelines. The current strategy aligns the conservation delivery on 4 conservation goals and 3 operation goals. The conservation goals are focusing on Forest, Wildlife, Freshwater and Human wellbeing, while operation goals focused strengthening the office on financial management, fundraising, communication, governance and human resources.

The consultancy tasks and assignments

  • Build on current documents and inputs to inform and develop the revised strategy: Collect  direction and inputs  from SMT, from the Framing paper, draft 2030 power-point, the current Strategic plan, the Wildlife Program and Fresh water strategies and use the inputs in developing an inspiring, ambitious revised WWF Zambia Conservation strategy.
  • Work with SMT and other change teams to review prioritise, and finalise  the  draft strategy outcomes  and develop related five  year results framework  and funding levels that will deliver the conservation impact that WWF Zambia aspires deliver by 2023 and overall by 2030
  • Work with Green Flames Change team, The Conservation Manger and SMT to recast and develop the WWF Zambia’s conservation Theory of Change, and the draft Delivery model (DM) in line with our 2030 ambition on conservation impact and operational excellence.
  • Plan a strategic consultation workshop with SMT key strategic stakeholders to provide feedback to the draft 2030 vision document  and  2023 strategic plan
  • Work with SMT through the Conservation Manager to develop a rolling conservation, finance, fundraising, and communication and operation targets from 2019 to 2023.
  • Work with Conservation Manager and M&E lead to revise the WWF Zambia M&E plan to ensure it reflects  the revised SP  and responds to tracking of performance on annual targets

Specify Experience, Qualifications and Skills:

  1.  Masters in strategic planning and business development with  track record of developing clear and comprehensive high impact organisational  strategies , budgets and investment plans
  2. At least 7 years relevant experience in strategic management, organisational development and investment planning business development planning/institutional change issues.
  3. Demonstrated capacity to think strategically across multi-disciplines and to develop multi-disciplinary strategic papers.
  4. Demonstrate thorough understanding of the current social, political and environmental context in Zambia and more broadly in Southern Africa will be necessary.
  5. A proven writer of high quality documents, strategic position paper that cut across multi-thematic areas.
  6. Ability to navigate and synthesize complex issues and summarize them for presentation to the specific audiences.
  7.  A bachelors or Master’s Degree in Natural Resources Management/Economics/ Social Science/Planning or related  will  be a strong added advantage
