Laboratory Technologist Ref No. LT/TP/20/02/23

The Lab Technologist will adhere to SOPs, policies and regulations for provision of quality services in the Laboratories under their charge.

Main duties

  • Is responsible for day-to-day operations all lab activates in the Laboratory and will ensure that the laboratory is kept clean at all time.
  • Collects study specimens as required by protocol
  • Assay and culture processing
  • Performs platform maintenance, control testing, cleaning and calibration
  • Works with Research Nurse/CO to ensure timely testing for each study participant
  • Keeps track and updates stock inventory for quality control materials, reagents and other consumables related to study protocol
  • Assists to write as well as properly adhering to study protocol
  • Ensures that all specimens and documentation are accounted for from reception to the testing station and that no loss of sample or documentation is incurred during this movement.
  • Prepares samples for storage and archiving ensuring appropriate documentation in required systems
  • Prepares for disposal and/or actual disposal for incineration of bio-hazardous material
  • Aliquoting of samples into correct sample receptacles when the study is in full flow
  • Autoclaving biological waste
  • Communicates all lab issues concerning the study on time
  • Monthly reporting of archived samples and monthly report of all lab related issues to the Lab Lead/PI
  • Ensures that all Internal Quality Controls are done and documented before running patient samples.

Qualifications

  • Full grade 12 Certificate
  • Diploma in Biomedical Medical laboratory sciences.
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team oriented collaborative environment
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of Zambia a must
  • In possession of a valid Practicing License
  • Strong written, oral communication skill and computer literate.
  • Registration with Biomedical Society of Zambia will be an advantage.
