CONSERVATION FARMING UNIT

The Conservation farming Unit (CFU) is a local organisation whose mission is to provide small and medium scale farmers with the environment, knowledge and practical experience to help them successfully adopt conservation farming and conservation agriculture practices. The CFU is currently implementing the Accelerated Innovation Delivery Initiative (AID-I) project in collaboration with CIMMYT with funding from USAID in 12 districts of Central and Southern provinces.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct field visits, demonstration plots management, field days and to assess good agricultural practices and provide tailored advice to farmers.
  • Ensure adoption of Conservation Agriculture practices and technology is increased among farmers.
  • Assist farmers in implementing good agricultural practices.
  • Ensure accuracy in data collection, analyzing and report writing.
  • Farmer training in Conservation Agriculture, Post Harvest technologies and Crop management.
  • Mechanization Service Providers identification, screening and conducting MSP promotional events and road shows.
  • Conduct Financial Literacy and Business training for farmer groups, facilitate market linkages and access to finance for target value chains.
  • Work closely with the private sector, In-community agents, Rural Agro-dealers and Crop Aggregators.
  • Distribute inputs, training materials and resources to farmers and other agricultural stakeholders.
  • Create awareness and availability of improved seed varieties to farmers.
  • Identify farmer groups and train them in seed multiplication.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Minimum of a Diploma in agriculture or better.
  • Experience in community facilitation.
  • At least 2 years of experience in conservation agriculture project implementation.
  • In possession of the Motorbike rider’s license and able to ride a motorbike.
  • A registered member of the Agriculture Institute of Zambia (AIZ).
