ABOUT US

Continental Ginnery Limited (CGL) is a member of the Parrogate Group, a multinational group that deals in agricultural grain trading and milling, edible oil processing,  retail petroleum trading, real estate development, transport and mining with operations in Malawi, Zimbabwe and Zambia. CGL is involved in cotton, soy beans, maize and sunflower aggregation as well as processing which it sources directly from smallholder farmers throughout the country.

CGL is implementing a project titled Crop Diversification and Yield Enhancement under the umbrella of the European Union funded; Enterprise Zambia Challenge Fund. CGL through the project plans to work with 25,000 smallholder farmers. 20,000 of these are already supplying CGL through its cotton out-grower scheme in the Central, Southern, and Eastern provinces. The company will roll out deeper engagement with these smallholder farmers, including more training, support to integrate other crops namely soy bean, maize and sunflower in rotation, increased digitization etc.

Furthermore, CGL aims to engage with these 25,000 smallholder farmers by creating 500 farmer groups, of which 100 will be women’s groups. Women’s groups will be trained in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, nutrition, communication management and leadership skills.

JOB PURPOSE

The position is set to strengthen gender mainstreaming initiatives aimed at increased crop diversity and productivity increase among female small scale farmer programs in CGL (current and future locations). It shall also focus on the attainment of the Continental Ginnery (CGL)/Enterprise Zambia Challenge Fund (EZCF) project objectives and contribute to efforts aimed at ensuring CGL field operations are fully compliant to standard regulations and focus on issues relating, but not limited to “child labour and female farmer” participation in cotton and other crop productions, household nutrition and health security through agriculture activities, financial literacy etc.

MAIN DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for working with Zonal Controllers and Area Managers and their respective field officer teams to increase female seed cotton, maize and soy bean productivity in Farmer Groups  through greater engagement with women farmers in providing and receiving training in CGL Women Crop Clubs (CWCC).
  • Responsible for working with Zonal Controllers and Area Managers and their respective field officer teams in the management of the CGL credit scheme and gender policy that provides equal opportunities to both male and female farmers.
  • Participate in the development of training materials for use in the CWCCs.
  • Work with partner organizations on all matter relating to gender.
  • Spearhead diversity strategies and activities within CGL.
  • Responsible for working with Zonal Controllers and Area Managers to increase awareness of CGL operations among women to all village headmen and local area, Senior and Paramount Chiefs.
  • Producing reports of all field activities relating to female farmer activities in Farmer Groups and Women Clubs.
  • Any other duties which may be assigned from time to time.

EDUCATION –

  • Diploma in Agriculture, Gender Studies, Project Management or any other relevant field.

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 3 years industrial experience.
  • Knowledge of crop production related to cotton, soy bean, sunflower and maize is an added advantage
  • Motorcycle riding ability is a strict requirement
