ControLab Zambia Limited is a specialist testing laboratory, offering geotechnical investigations and construction materials testing services to the civil, geotechnical and structural engineering fraternity.

In order to further improve its delivery of services, the firm intends to hire the following:

1. Geotechnical Engineer (01)

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead field and laboratory construction materials investigations.
  • Write and present geotechnical engineering proposals and reports.
  • Ensure that project budgets and schedules for site investigations are met.

Qualifications

  • Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate with Five (5) Credits or better.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent and member of EIZ.
  • Relevant work experience in a construction materials laboratory or in the field of geotechnical engineering, civil engineering or a related field.
  • Familiar with ASTM, TMH1, SABS and British Standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including early identification of inadequacies in test results data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Packages (Word and Excel) is a must.
  • Effective written, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours when (or as need requires) required.
  •  Flexibility to travel even at short notice.
  • Valid Driver’s License

2. Soils and Materials Technologists (02)

Key Responsibilities

  • Field sampling and testing of soil, aggregates, concrete, asphalt etc.
  • Conducting field investigations and performing laboratory tests on construction materials, interpret test results, and prepare reports and/or summaries of test results under the supervision of the laboratory manager.
  • Document interpretation to ensure projects are completed in accordance with project technical specifications.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurement and documentation.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.
  • Assist with other field work and laboratory functions as need arises.

Qualifications and skills

  • Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate with Five (5) Credits or better
  • A minimum of a Diploma in Civil Engineering.
  • Must be a registered with EIZ.
  • Experience in field and laboratory soil testing procedures (Sieve Analysis, hydrometer, Atterberg Limits, Specific Gravity, MDD etc.) is an asset
  • Certificate in Construction Materials Testing will be an added advantage.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including identifying test results data quality issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Packages (Word and Excel) is a must.
  • Effective written, interpersonal and communication skills.
