Job description:

Overall Job Purpose

The data engineer’s role has a strong focus on data ingress, data storage, data cataloguing, and data quality metrics. Additionally, the data engineer is responsible for incorporating industry best practices into the FQM data ecosystem, as well as integrating existing and new data sources into the wider data system.

Specific Job Responsibility

Interpreting of the data requirements that are defined as part of any project or other requirement
Implement Data pipelines from source to storage as per available designs/ frameworks.
Investigate sub-systems and recommend options for integration into the broader data framework
Development of the solution to acquire, ingest, or capture data and ensure that formats are compatible with existing systems
Utilise orchestration tools to ensure that data is timeously present in required storage while ensuring minimal overhead
Provide Ad-Hoc Query Support: This activity involves helping customers and stakeholders with ad-hoc data calls. e.g. assisting stakeholders with one-off data query requirements to assess the feasibility of a larger project.
Recurring Data Quality Reports: This activity involves the generation of reports and dashboards to all stakeholders
Is responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of the ‘data warehouse’
Works alongside 3rd party suppliers to deliver information solutions
Support user acceptance testing of new data warehouse features
Assist with root cause analysis of data integrity issues.
Interfaces with data providers to ensure data integrity.
Assist data analytics team in maintaining data catalogue

Experience & Qualifications

2 years’ experience in strong SQL or similar skills
2 years’ experience in strong Python or similar skills
Experience with software development methodologies
Minimum 5 years’ overall experience
(Highly Regarded) Familiarity with SSIS, Airflow, Synapse
(Highly Regarded) Experience with Git
(Highly Regarded) Administration level experience with SQL Server

Job Specific Competencies

Competence with various BI development platforms i.e. Power BI, SSAS, AAS
Competence with python analytical packages
