DIRECTOR/CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Legal Aid Board (LAB) is a statutory body established underthe Legal Aid Act chapter 34 of the Laws of Zambia. The Board is mandated to provide legal aid services to persons with inadequate means.
The Board now seeks to appoint a dynamic and pro-active person to be based at Lusaka office and invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of DIRECTOR/CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Board
Job purpose:- To manage the provision of legal aid, advice and legal representation to persons who cannot afford the selvices of private legal practitioners in orderto enable them have access to justice.
Duties and responsibilities
- Grants timely legal aid to persons in civil and criminal cases in order to facilitate the dispensation of justice;
- Ensures the timely preparation of monthly duty roster for High Coult and Supreme Court
- Sessions to ensure that clients are effectively represented in the courts of law;
- Renders appropriate legal advice to the needy persons in order to facilitate the speedy resolution of disputes;
- Ensures the effective interpretation of the Legal Aid Act in orderto provide guidelines in the formulation and implementation ofthe National Legal Aid Policy;
- Cordinates the timely preparation ofthe monthly, quarterly and annual reports to the Board;
- Effectively administer performance appraisal system and oversee staff welfare;
- Co-ordinate the timely preparation of the budget in order to secure financies for smooth operations of the Board;
- Administer the LegalAid Fund;
- Controls and maneges effectively client’s eccounts in order to ensure proper disbursement of damages awarded to clients by courts of law and;
- Manages effectively human and other resources in order to ensure the attainment of the Board Objectives
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- Grade Twelve (12) full certificate
- LLB and Advocete ofthe High Coult of Zambia
- At least ten (10) years of practice as an Advocate at a senior managerial level
- Member of Law Association of Zambia
- Integrity, diplomacy, tact with great patience
- Interpersonal skills/good public relations
- Excellent verbal, analytical, organisational and written skills
- Experience in legal work with indigent orvulnerable persons will be an added advantage
