Job description:

Overall Job Purpose :

Assist the Electrical Superintendent in executing all functions pertaining to the Operations Support – Projects Electrical department ensuring work is carried out safely and all relevant standards are maintained and adhered to. Ratify all proposed electrical designs submitted to the department for construction to ensure a safe, efficient and legal installation is carried out. Compile project packs ensuring all drawings are complete and any additional spares are added to stock to ensure continued maintenance of new equipment installed. Where necessary, compile sag and tension charts for 33kV OHL installations. Carry the legal 209.1b appointment for the section.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

Conduct regular inspections of workplaces to ensure safety is the primary focus and all outputs and KPI’s are achieved within budget.
Ensuring all installations are carried out in a safe and efficient manner, to assure maximum reliability and uptime.
Meeting set work targets for daily work group activities in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
Achieving results through prioritizing activities, monitoring the progress of assignments, and holding oneself accountable for the results.
Motivate yourself and others in overcoming obstacles and achieving goals.
Planning & assisting in laying out of work on new projects.
A proven ability to work with other disciplines to achieve minimal disruption to plant and obtain required results.

Job Specific Competencies:

Proven experience in Electrical design and installation with a focus on safety and quality installations. Experience in the construction and design of concentrator plant electrical installations, DC traction lines, 33kV overhead lines, cable and conductor size selection, OHL sag and tension charts.
Ability to multi-task & work well in a team environment.
Good verbal and written communications skills
High regard and commitment to safe work practices.
Proficient in the use of AutoCad for electrical drawings and Microsoft suite.

Experience required to perform in this job:

A Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in concentrator plants on a similar level, preferably in a large open-pit mining operations.
