Position: Electrical Superintendent

Lumwana Mine, Kalumbila, Zambia.

Reporting to: Maintenance Manager

Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Electrical Superintendent

Role Summary

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will provide direction and support to enable sustained improvement in the integrity and reliability of mine site electrical assets. Your duties will include but not limited to the following:

Responsibilities

Accountable maintenance undertaken on electrical assets across site with a key emphasis on moving towards a culture of planned maintenance and quality
Establishment of the Electrical Standard AS3000 and High Voltage switching found on site
Certifying of all Design standards for electrical installations on site
Conversant with Siemens (GMD) gearless motor drives
Supervise planned maintenance and breakdown electrical repairs to plant and equipment
Measure and report overall maintenance performance
Electrical standards implementation and quality of repair
Change management of electrical installations
Compliance to Barrick and relevant international standards
Electrical installation signoff for compliance to design for projects
Identify opportunities for continuous improving of maintenance processes and systems.
Measure and report electrical usage across Lumwana and approval of monthly ZESCO accounts
Ensuring the compliance to energy consumption targets across Lumwana established with ZESCO
Statutory leadership across Lumwana for electrical standards and code of practice
Development of Zambian professionals with training, codes of practice and advance their electrical knowledge with structured systems and standards
Undertake the statutory electrical license role that verifies compliance across the mine and develops gap closure plans with stakeholders to closure
Develop the skills and competency of electrical / instrument artisans, and, develop next in line successors
Develop the quality requirements of how electrical maintenance shall be undertaken
Develop and deploy gap closure plans that enables sustained improvement in safety, reliability, cost and competency of the team
Provide strong subject matter expertise on electrical asset maintenance
Manage expenditure within budget

Experience & Qualifications

Degree in Electrical Engineering
Minimum fifteen (15) years’ experience in mining and or power generation industries with 10 years in a leadership role
Demonstrated experience in HV electrical equipment found on site, including shovels, haul trucks, gearless motor drives, transformers etc.
Demonstrated experience in leading teams of people and driving cultural change
Competent in Zambian electrical regulations and standards
Must have a current driver’s license.
Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia
