External Engagement Specialist

The U.S. Mission in Zambia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of External
Engagement Specialist.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

The incumbent is responsible for public outreach and communication plans on behalf of the PEFPAR Coordination Office (PCO) located at the U.S. Embassy in Lusaka. This position will represent the PCO with both internal and external partners to ensure that Zambians and other international audiences are cognizant of United States Government investments in HIV/AIDS. Serves as the point of contact between PEPFAR and other donors in Zambia, and is responsible for the civil society portfolio through the direct supervision of the Civil Society Engagement Specialist. Incumbent is supervised by Deputy PEPFAR Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Applicants must address each required qualification listed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item. Failure to do so may result in a determination that the applicant is not qualified.

1. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in either Communications, Journalism, Business Administration, Public Health, Public Relations, international development or Marketing is required

2. EXPERIENCE: Four years’ experience in public health communications outreach is required. The experience must include electronic media, technical writing skills and managing social media or online advertising

3. LANGUAGE: Level IV (fluent) reading, written and spoken English is required. Language proficiency. (This will be tested)

4. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong Microsoft Office (word, excel, outlook etc.), keyboarding and numerical skills are required

5. JOB KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of public health prevention and community-based health care initiatives, including program design, implementation, and evaluation. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and engage with a variety of stakeholders (e.g. civil society, international donors, US government agencies, media outlets, etc) required. Must have experience organizing large-scale high-profile events.
