Field Coordinator– Job Profile
Job Title: Field Coordinator
Reports to: Chief Technical Advisor/Project Manager
Start Date: 22nd October, 2018
Location: Lusaka- Zambia
Project: Promotion of agroforestry for wood and non-wood forest products in Katete district, Eastern Province, Zambia

The Field Coordinator will support/deputise the international Chief Technical Advisor (CTA)/Project Manager throughout the entire project period. He will be responsible for the implementation of the technical project components and preparation of products. The Field Coordinator takes the position as deputy CTA and will be responsible for the administrative and financial management of the project in the absence of the CTA.

Project management tasks:

  • Supporting the CTA in the financial, technical and administrative project planning and steering;
  • Mostly independent coordination of technical and administrative project management and coordination with partners;
  • Support to the coordination and cooperation especially of the independently orga-nized project activities with the partner;
  • Planning, acquisition and inventory of project material and equipment and supervising appropriate and careful use;
  • Support of the office assistant in the monthly accounting and project invoicing;
  • Support of the CTA in regular and timely project reporting and drawing up technical reports documenting the deployment of every short-term expert;
  • Support of project evaluations;
  • Regular attendance and active participation in team meetings and other relevant technical meetings in Zambia, particularly in Katete district, Chipata and Lusaka, al-ways in coordination with the CTA and partners;
  • Support of short term experts during field visits

Technical tasks:

  • Supporting the CTA in the planning, coordination and management in the implemen-tation of the project results;
  • Support of the FTC in implementing the business plan and activities as well as the in-stitutional re-structuring process that is required;
  • Organization of knowledge management and cooperation and networking with the most important stakeholders and initiatives on agroforestry and lead farmers;
  • Identification of training needs of the employees of the FTC, DFO, lead farmers;
  • Development and implementation of the necessary training curricula;
  • Compile training materials for the FTC and for on-farm training;
  • Develop business concept together with lead farmers
  • Support the establishment of pilot woodlots and other agroforestry practices on-farm
  • Contribute to negotiations with Chiefs in Katete on institutional arrangements and land tenure rights for farm woodlots
  • Support of the project personnel and the FTC in developing and implementing a M&E system to monitor the performance of business activities, establishment of agroforest-ry demo plots and trainings;
  • Contribute to awareness raising materials and outreach campaigns


  • University degree (M.Sc) in Agroforestry/Forestry or other relevant fields;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience preferably at the intersection of agroforestry and natural resources (especially with regard to natural forest utilization/conservation)
  • Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in capacity development and capacity or-ganization, the development and implementation of agricultural/agroforestry curricula;
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in the field of land tenure rights/tree tenure rights needs to be proven;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of participatory approaches on how to include the local population and communities;
  • Proven experience in the cooperation with government authorities and civil society associations in the field of agroforestry/forestry;
  • Experience in international cooperation projects
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and the local language in the Eastern Province (Nyanja)
