Background

Grassroot Soccer Zambia (GRS Zambia) is an adolescent health organisation that uses the power of soccer to educate, inspire, and mobilise young people to live healthier lives and be agents for change in their communities. GRS Zambia reaches adolescents and young adults across Zambia, with over 60% of its annual reach being adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) 10-24 years old.

GRS Zambia programmes combine sport-based interventions with health and life skills education curricula, delivered by young adults who are trained as mentors “Coaches.” GRS works through schools and community spaces to reach vulnerable adolescents, actively linking them to high-impact health services in their communities. GRS measures impact by assessing on knowledge, attitudes, behaviours, tracking referrals to and uptake of high-impact health services, and investigates biomedical outcomes through modelling and impact evaluations.

Project Overview

Grassroot Soccer Zambia has through Catholic Medical Mission Board-CMMB(Prime) been awarded a five-years USAID funded project to be implemented on the Copperbelt and North-Western provinces of Zambia. The goal of the project is to mitigate the impact of HIV and improve the health and wellbeing of VCA through the delivery of high-impact, evidence-informed, and age-appropriate interventions customized for each VCA sub-population using a family-centered approach. The project seeks to improve the social and health outcomes of vulnerable households in high HIV burden districts across two provinces of Zambia (Copperbelt and North-Western) in close collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ). The Activity aims to ensure that children are a) healthy by improving access to health/HIV services; b) safe by improving child protection and prevention of gender-based violence (GBV); c) stable by improving household economic security and linkage to social protection; and d) schooled by improving school retention and progression.

Grassroot Soccer Zambia seeks to fill the positions stated below to implement this project successfully.

1. SKILLZ Project Manager (Ndola)

The focus of the role is the overall responsibility for the design and delivery of the Project in the target districts. It involves managing a team of staff who oversee programs activities at various project sites in the two provinces. The role includes liaising with the M&E, Administration, Operations, Communication, Partnerships, Grant and Compliance to ensure efficient delivery of program activities, accuracy and timely reporting. Other tasks will include:-

  • Collaborate with site coordinators to ensure all program activities are operating smoothly.
  • Provide guidance in decision making concerning daily planning and realisation of activities in accordance with approved program schedules and budgets.
  • Manage programmatic learning processes to ensure ongoing evaluation of program delivery, identification of promising practices and integration of those practices into future programming.
  • Management of project staff to ensure that programs are delivered as planned and staff are held accountable to measurable objectives and targets.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Tertiary education (bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field preferred). A Project Management qualification will be advantageous
  • 3 years of relevant work experience within the development sector (preferably the health NGO sector)

2. Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator (Ndola)

The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all monitoring, evaluation and learning tactical and operational activities on the project Key to this position include ensuring alignment of project activities with the M&E Startegy, tactical and operational planning, supporting project implementation as envisioned, tracking the roll-out of key performance indicators (KPIs), including capacity-building of Data Capturers/ Coaches, Program staff and oversight on M&E data and processes. The M&E Coordinator will additionally liaise with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Manager to oversee data flow processes and data quality controls, as well as develop and revise M&E tools. The M&E Coordinator will be encouraged to think creatively to keep GRS at the cutting edge of monitoring and evaluation processes, attend data reviews and create partnerships with key and relevant M&E stakeholders on the project.

The M&E Coordinator will report to the MEL Manager, working closely with the System Analyst & Developer, and will be based at at the Regional Offices in Ndola on the Copperbelt with to project sites on the Copperbelt and North Western Province.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Tertiary education (bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field preferred). An M&E qualification will be advantageous
  • 3 years of relevant M&E related work experience within the development sector (preferably the health NGO sector)

3. Finance and Admin Assistant (Ndola)

This position is responsible for preparing, recording, reviewing and reconciling the financial transactions incurred by Grassroot Soccer Zambia. Duties also include payroll related functions, assist in grant management, annual budgeting and monitoring and annual audit. Preparing the financial statements and managing the annual audit. Other key tasks will include .

  • Manage and maintain accounting system.
  • Assist in the annual budget process & maintenance of site budgets
  • Review and approve reconciliation process and weekly/monthly journal entries.
  • Assume responsibility of being one of the organizations bank agent
  • Manage monthly bank account reporting – Review and approve monthly petty cash journal entries and prepare bank entries perform reconciliation.
  • Maintain forms and create and maintain filing system.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies and procedures.
  • Manage and maintain accounting system.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Tertiary education, Diploma in Accounting, ZICA, or related field preferred. A professional qualification will be advantageous
  • 3 years of relevant working experience within the development sector (preferably the health NGO sector)

4. Project Site Coordinators (Chingola-1, Luanshya-1, Ndola-1, Kitwe-1, Mufulira-1, Solwezi-1)

To provide overall leadership, quality control and supervision of the implementation of the project activities at the site. Tasks will include

  • Ensure continuous implementation of the project in collaboration with the Site community volunteers (Coaches)
  • Liaise with the project Manager on the recruitment of project beneficiaries at the site.
  • Conduct all community mobilisation activities at the site
  • Coordination of referral to high-impact services for project beneficiaries
  • Provide oversight on all GRS curriculum activities at the site including supervision of community volunteers (Coaches)
  • Manage logistics, before, during and after each event and assist in the planning of all community activities.
  • Participate in Training of Coaches and help CDT in planning for trainings.
  • Conduct pro-active regular site visits to SKILLZ activities including Coach Support Visits.
  • Assist in the inventory of all program materials purchased for participant use at the site.
  • Ensure Timesheets are filled in correctly and submitted to the Finance Officer for coaches receive payments on time.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Tertiary education (Diploma in social sciences or related field preferred). A Community Development qualification will be advantageous
  • 2 years of relevant working experience within the development sector (preferably the health NGO sector)
