Job Description:

We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced General Farm Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of Ilondola Farms that will lead to achieving better yields, profitability, and sustainable agricultural practices. The General Farm Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency, productivity, and sustainability of our farm operations and will oversee and manage all aspects of dairy operation, beef operations, fisheries, livestock management,  crop cultivation, staff supervision, financial management, and strategic planning.

Responsibilities:

1.     Farm Management

a.     Plan, coordinate, and execute all farming activities of Ilondola Farms

b.    Implement sustainable agricultural practices to optimize yields, minimize environmental impact, and ensure long-term viability.

c.     Make strategic decisions regarding crop selection, livestock breeds, and production methods to maximize profitability.

d.     Preserving environmental biodiversity and undertake protection activities if need be

e.     Ensuring all biosafety standards are maintained and all staff adhere to health and safety regulations

2.     Staff Supervision:

a.     Recruit, train, and supervise farm staff, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient and effective operations.

b.    Foster a positive work environment based on teamwork, communication, and mutual respect.

c.     Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to employees to encourage continuous improvement.

3.     Financial Management:

a.     Prepare and manage budgets for all farm activities, including monitoring expenses and revenues to achieve financial goals, record-keeping of financial transactions, farm inputs, and production costs.

4.     Documentation and Reporting

a.     Manage documentation related to animal records, crop yields, financial aspects, and regulatory compliance.

b.     Prepare regular reports on farm performance, including production metrics, financial analysis, and strategic planning updates.

Qualifications:

1.     Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Agribusiness, or related field

2.     Para Vetetrinary qualification will be an added advantage

3.     Certification  and experience in Artificial Insemination

4.     Over 7 years, proven experience in farm management, with a focus on both crop cultivation and livestock farming, particularly Dairy farming

5.     Should have strong leadership and decision-making skills, with the ability to effectively manage resources and prioritize tasks.

6.     Knowledge of sustainable agriculture practices, market dynamics, and regulatory requirements.

7.     Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, and key stakeholders

8.     Should have a valid drivers license

9.     Veterinary Association of Zambia Membership will be an added advantage
