Improving the Health of Individuals and Communities

The USAID Controlling HIV Epidemic for Key and Underserved Populations (CHEKUP II) Activity was awarded on September 13, 2022, with implementation through September 6, 2027.  USAID CHEKUP II is implemented by John Snow Health Zambia (JSH) in partnership with JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI) and Media 365. The Activity aims to support the Ministry of Health in mitigating against and attaining HIV epidemic control by increasing equitable access to, and use of person-centered, community-driven, and high-quality HIV prevention services for key and underserved (priority) populations. USAID CHEKUP II Activity operates in seven districts with the highest HIV-burden in Zambia. These include: Chirundu, Lusaka, Kabwe, Kapiri-Mposhi, Kasama, Chipata, and Nakonde.

The Activity aims to address the needs of people living with HIV (PLHIV) and those most at risk of acquiring HIV and contribute to HIV mitigation and epidemic control. USAID CHEKUP II seeks to improve the health outcomes of priority and key populations by preventing new HIV infections and ensuring that all infected are identified, diagnosed, linked to treatment and virally suppressed. USAID CHEKUP II Activity seeks dynamic and highly experienced candidates to fill the following vacant positions.

1.     Position: Trainers of Healthy Home Parenting Program

Location: Kabwe, Kapiri Mposhi, Kasama, Chipata (2 per District)

Duration: Consultancy for 9 (Nine) Days

Reports to: Advisor DREAMS and OVC programming

2.     Role’s Purpose:

CHEKUP II is currently running 16 DREAMS Centers across 4 Districts; Chipata, Kabwe, Kapiri Mposhi, and Kasama. One of its core programs is the parenting program, where the organization aims to empower or help cultivate open, caring, and trusting relationships between caregivers and their adolescents. Healthy and positive relations help parents protect their adolescents against adverse health and social outcomes.

The parenting program aims to strengthen the caregiver’s ability to provide a healthy, nurturing, and stimulating environment for their children for survival and healthy development. The objective of the consultancy is to enhance the capacities of the parenting facilitators to deliver the healthy home parenting curriculum to the communities and families targeting the parents or caregivers of program beneficiaries.

3.     Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-group session home visits with each participating family to learn more about the family and their homes environment.
  • Conduct the sessions on parenting and relationship- building skills for groups of parents and adolescents.
  • Engage in pre-training preparations (2days).
  • Training successfully conducted, including practicum (5 days).
  • Submit training report, including site-specific action plans to inform program.

4.     Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

  • Bachelor in Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, or equivalent from the recognized institution.
  • Ability to use role play and illustrations that have been specially developed to deliver the core lessons of each session.
  • Relevant training in Healthy Homes Parenting curriculum from a recognized institution.
  • With two years or more experience conducting similar training (evidence to be proved in the application with references of previous work done.
  • Provide detailed work methodology to be used during the training.
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills and also a proven track record working with people in communities and vulnerable groups.
  • Proficiency in local languages, preferably Nyanja and Bemba.
