CYBER-SECURITY LECTURER (ONE POSITION)

Kapasa Makasa University is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates who are highly self-motivated and passionate about making a mark in the education sector to fill the position of ICT lecturer for Cybersecurity on full-time employment in the ICT department. The candidate should possess the following qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Certificate with Five (5) credits or better including English and Mathematics
  • Holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) or any ICT-related relevant field and a Master’s degree in either Information and Communication Technology Security, Computer Security, Network Security, Information Assurance, Data Privacy, or any Computer Science field with a focus on relevant security content. Must have at least two (2) years of teaching experience in a tertiary institution, and have scholarly experience.
  • Being a holder of an earned PhD in Computer Science or an ICT-related field will be an added advantage.
  • Must have a minimum of two years of industry experience with hands-on experience in roles related to:
    • Security analysis
    • Network security engineering
    • Penetration testing
    • Incident response
    • Security consulting
    • Vulnerability assessment
    • Security operations
  • Prior experience lecturing in ICT, Computer Science or Cyber Security courses is an advantage, as it demonstrates the ability to communicate technical topics to students.
  • Must have verifiable scholarly work published in reputable journals.
  • Must belong to a professional body related to the field of expertise and be an active member.
  • Holding a teaching methodology qualification will be an added advantage.

Responsibilities:

  • To participate in offering computer and ICT courses to students pursuing undergraduate bachelor’s degrees in their respective fields.
  • Mentor students applying academic knowledge to solve real-life problems as they work their way through their undergraduate programs.
  • To work with the institution as well as outside professionals in discussing opportunities for coordination research and development.
  • To review, revise, and improve curricula used by the department.

Required Skills:

  • Intrusion detection and incident response.
  • Network security control and threat knowledge.
  • Should have programming skills in any combination of:
    • C#
    • C++
    • Java
    • Python
    • Web development
    • Any contemporary languages
  • Practical knowledge of various tools and platforms used in cyber security, such as:
    • Firewalls
    • IDS/IPS systems
    • SIEM
    • Encryption technologies
    • Penetration testing tools (e.g., Kali Linux, Metasploit, Burp Suite, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to set up and manage hands-on labs and simulation environments for students to practice real-world cybersecurity tasks.
  • Knowledge of regulations and compliance.
