Job Rationale:

A reputable meat processing company is seeking skilled Butchery assistants to provide high-quality meats and services to our customers.

The successful candidate should be courteous, knowledgeable, and detail-oriented. You should have excellent communication skills and a strong understanding of meat quality, cuts, and preparation.

Key performance areas:

  1. Pack meat into retail or bulk packaging for further sells on to customers
  2. Operate the pricing scale and price meat products
  3. Ensure all meat, ingredients and utensils are stored properly
  4. Cutting, grinding and preparing meats for sale.
  5. Ensure timely merchandising
  6. Ensure all meat is fresh and well packed meat by checking sell-buy dates, bloody and broken packs sorted
  7. To assist in receiving/offloading merchandise meant for the butchery/outlet;
  8. Assist with stock rotation and storage management of meat and meat related items
  9. Ensure compliance with all food safety and hygiene policies
  10. Ensure that the outlet is clean at all times by managing the day to day cleaning of production areas, fridges freezers and store rooms
  11. Maintain good/safe personal hygiene while working/preparing meat and meat related items
  12. Assist all customers with their requirements
  13. Assist with set stock takes
  14. Assist with receiving of meat carcass’s and related items
  15. Quick learner and willing to follow set receipes accurately
  16. Work with different tools and equipment to produce quality butchery cuts
  17. Packaging butchery goods, maintain stock levels and check expiration dates
  18. Honest, mature and sober of character
  19. Ability to communicate effectively and work with people of diverse backgrounds
  20. Work in a fast paced and pressure intensive environment

Position Requirements:    

Education:    Full grade twelve (12) certificate and or Higher tertiary certifications in other food based courses is an added advantage

Experience: Minimum 2 years work experience in a established butchery and in the meat Processing Industry or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform job duties may be considered

Qualities:

  • Education or food preparation or meat cutting experience.
  • Ability to use hand tools, stand or walk for extending periods, lift heavy items, and work in cold environments.
  • Additional training is often required.
  • Knowledge of meat preparation techniques and cuts.
  • Strong communication, task management, and customer service skills.
