General Maintenance Officer (01)

Reporting to : Human Resource and Administration Officer

JOB PURPOSE

To oversee maintenance and repairs of electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, carpentry, painting, and other building systems for the Institute

Principal Accountabilities (Main Duties)

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the maintenance unit.
  • Evaluates systems or facilities to determine maintenance or repairs that need to be performed.
  • Assesses building systems to plan work assignments and project schedules.
  • Develops maintenance procedures and schedules.
  • Ensures maintenance and repair work is completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Assists with departmental budget estimates and costs of specific repair projects.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Participates in the recruitment and training of maintenance unit staff.
  • Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of maintenance staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 Certificate with 5 credits or better including Mathematics and English.
  • Minimum of an earned Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical/Civil Engineering or its equivalent from an accredited and reputable College/University
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and write scholarly publications
  • Computer literate and must be conversant in Microsoft Office package
  • Must be in possession of a valid practicing licence of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)
  • Must be a registered Engineer of the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).
  • At least three (3) years of work experience in a reputable Institution
  • At least 25 years old

Additional Attributes

  • Working under minimum supervision
  • Extensive knowledge of building systems such as plumbing, electrical, and Heating Ventilation Air conditioning (HVAC)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify issues and determine repairs that are needed.
  • Ability to plan maintenance schedules for building systems.
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Computer literate and must be conversant in Microsoft Office package
