Lusaka International Community School (LICS) is currently seeking a qualified and passionate individual to join their Primary School team, effective 1 August 2025. Position Available: Primary School Teacher
1. Requirements:
- Knowledge & Understanding:
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge and understanding of students and how they learn.
- Know subject and curriculum content and how to teach it effectively.
- Demonstrate professional teacher values and attributes.
- Establish professional relationships to support quality learning and teaching.
- Implement effective planning, teaching, learning, assessment, and reporting practices.
- Demonstrate innovative and effective classroom practice.
- Create and maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Engage professionally with parents and communities.
2. Qualifications:
- Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree, QTS, PGCE, and/or PGCE at Primary level (or equivalent).
- Experience in teaching across the Primary range.
- For non-Zambian applicants, qualifications will need to be certified and evaluated by the Examinations Council of Zambia and Zambia Qualifications Authority.
- Registration with a Teachers’ Accreditation/Registration Body.
- Skills & Experience:
- Proven ability and experience in teaching across the primary school age range.
- Excellent English language reading and writing skills.
- IT literacy, knowledge, and experience with Microsoft Office suite and a range of educational apps.
- Experience with the Cambridge Primary Curriculum is preferable.
- Actively promote ‘Global Citizenship’ in the everyday classroom.
3. Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
3.1 Academic Responsibilities:
- Plan and prepare termly schemes of work and overviews in accordance with the school’s curriculum and the policy on differentiated work for the range of learning needs.
- Liaise with Key Stage Leads and Vice-Principal to identify cross-curricular links and opportunities.
- Teach assigned students, setting and marking work in accordance with the curriculum.
- Set and mark homework as per the school’s homework policy.
- Assess, record, and report students’ development, progress, and attainment following the school’s assessment policy.
- Maintain a stimulating and lively environment by showcasing students’ work and digital resources.
- Regularly review and update curriculum schemes of work.
- Use educational apps and AI tools for teaching and student support, especially in Art.
- Cooperate with PS Leadership Team and other teachers on curriculum development, teaching materials, programs, methods, and assessment.
- Supervise and teach students when their teacher is unavailable.
- Participate in ordering equipment and materials to foster high standards and innovation.
- Ensure a stimulating environment through differentiated work and collaboration with Student Success Services (SSS).
- Write detailed, informative reports to parents regarding students’ progress and ability.
- Upload assessment data and student reports to ISAMS as requested by the Vice-Principal or Key Stage Leads.
3.2 Pastoral Responsibilities:
- Maintain good discipline within the class in cooperation with the school’s behavior policy.
- Safeguard students’ health, safety, and well-being at all times.
- Monitor and register students’ attendance.
- Provide guidance and advice to students on educational and social matters.
- Keep records of students’ personal and social needs, including incidents.
- Participate in meetings, assemblies, parent-teacher conferences, and community events as required.
- Ensure students wear the correct uniform and adhere to the school’s dress code.
- Promote and uphold the school’s Vision & Mission statements.
3.3 Professional Development:
- Participate in appraisals of personal performance and that of other teachers per the school’s appraisal policy.
- Regularly review teaching methods and content.
- Participate in further training and professional development as appropriate.
3.4 Staff Meetings:
- Attend all staff meetings, PD sessions, and meetings related to the teacher’s professional duties, whether during or outside school hours.
- Lead meetings as required to promote the understanding of teaching and learning in Art.
3.5 Management Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the professional development of other teachers and non-teaching staff, including the induction of new teachers.
- Manage or coordinate the work of other teachers, assistant teachers, or non-teaching staff when required.
