Call for expression of interest – University curriculum development consultancy

Background: Macha Research Trust (MRT) is a health research organization based in Choma District,  Southern Province of Zambia whose core business is to conduct and support quality health research and implement health programs, addressing relevant health issues affecting the people of Zambia and beyond. In an effort to fulfill its mission, MRT is expanding its scope of activities by launching an educational component to the institution and register as a University with Zambia’s Higher Education Authority (HEA). The University will be called Macha Research Trust University (MRTU). The plan is to initially offer degree programs in the following disciplines which the institution’s research has traditionally focused on:

a) BSc Medical Laboratory Science,

b) BSc Medical Entomology and Biology,

c) BSc Public Health

d) MSc in Public Health

Scope of work: The call for consultancy is to provide technical expertise in the development of curricula in the listed programs in order to meet the requirement for registration and accreditation with the HEA. The consultant will work with other experts to put together the contents of the listed programs and finalize the documents in readiness for submission to the HEA.

Specific tasks:

1. Receive and review developed draft key elements and frameworks of curricula

2. Identify and select experts in relevant fields to develop the curricula (the draft list of experts will be provided)

3. Advise on the design, plan of all curriculum development phases, including activities, timelines, budget and expected outputs from each activity.

4. Convene, prepare, validate and report on all work sessions and workshop with experts related to the curriculum development component and ensure the final report is ready for submission to the HEA.

5. Receive and review draft report of the Training Needs Assessment (TNA)

6. Convene stakeholders workshop to validate the TNA report and ensure it’s ready for submission to HEA

7. Provide weekly updates to showcase progress on the agreed deliverables and flag any pending matters.

8. Receive, review and consolidate all the documents pertaining to the application in readiness for submission to HEA

9. Any other tasks as needed by the curriculum development consultancy and as assigned by the MRT Scientific Director / Curriculum Development Sub-Committee.

Desired qualifications, skills and experience for the consultant

1. Minimum of Master’s degree preferably in Education, Health/Life or Social Sciences and other relevant qualifications from a reputable Higher Learning Institution

2. PhD qualification  in any relevant field or its equivalent is an added advantage

3. Minimum of ten (10) years relevant post-qualifying experience in design and development of undergraduate and postgraduate curricula including experience as a team leader in review processes related to curriculum development

4. A strong record of academic leadership in both teaching and research from a reputable higher education institution is an added advantage

5. Demonstrable understanding of the Higher Education Act No.4 of 2013, as read together with the Higher Education (Amendment) Act No. 23 of 2021 and the Higher Education Authority guidelines and requirements in university and learning program registration processes

6. Ability to meet timelines

How to apply: Qualified, interested consultants should submit their expression of interest with a detailed technical and financial proposal for the consultancy with the following components not later than Tuesday, 7th March, 2023 close of business day.

a) Technical proposal describing: understanding and interpretation of the ToR, methodology to be used in undertaking the assignment, time and activity schedule, profile of the consultant including the CV/s and evidence of recent related works with references.

b) Financial proposal detailing the itemized costs in ZMW
