Key Responsibilities

  • The incumbent will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
  • Drive standards of safety and environmental behavior and performance.
  • Monitor compliance with the requirements of applicable legislation and business requirements to ensure adherence.
  • Develops and reviews plans and systems (both technical and management) to achieve and improve mining KPI’s (mining to plan).
  • Set and manage KPI’s for direct reports to achieve operational objectives.
  • Coordinate work place inspections to identify conditions or practices that have the potential for loss. Immediately correct substandard conditions and practices to minimize employee accidents, property and environmental damage.
  • Manage and control mining and production activity to achieve economic targets as planned
  • Be responsible for all Regulatory sign on and filings.
  • Actively manage staff and contractor relationships to optimize performance, reliability and cost.
  • Manage other key internal and external relationships as required, including the Mining Authorities.
  • Ensure that an appropriate structure is in place to deliver optimal performance at the mine.
  • Manage / facilitate all operations and mine-related projects as appropriate.
  • Ensure adherence to standards and procedures in all areas of operations.
  • Manage and control OPEX and CAPEX in accordance with approved plans.
  • Be responsible for efficient asset management including the development and management of a timely adherence of maintenance program across all production assets
  • Deliver required BCM’s and grades as in accordance with the mine plan and budget, and deliver yields as per budget.
  • Recommend relevant benchmarks and identify the best practice leading to these and the improvement activities required to achieve and exceed them.
  • Plan, organize, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations to exceed our customers’ expectations
  • Active workforce planning including succession planning for Zambian employees.

Qualifications

  • Relevant Degree in Mining Engineering or similar
  • Registered with EIZ
  • Current Mining & Blasting certificate

Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years’ professional experience in mining of which at least 5 years should have been in a senior level production management and at least 5 years in opencast mining.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing a large diversified and multicultural professional team.
  • Experienced leader in managing Safety, Health and Environmental aspects with the ability to create a positive culture.
