Job overview:
Matase Industrial Solutions is seeking a qualified experienced Generator Technicians. The successful incumbents will be responsible for installations, inspections and quality checks, Minor and Major services and maintenance of generators sets, including conducting electrical fault-finding, do load-testing and minor electrical fault finding on various engine makes and models. The role reports to the Field Services Manager. Travelling across various regions in the country and SADC countries will be required from time to time. The incumbent will also be required to work closely with Field services Coordinators. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, highly organized, have strong knowledge of the generator manufacturing industry and ability to work long hours, weekends, public holidays and be on standby for emergency situations.
Detailed Job Description:
Key focus areas
- To install, test, maintain and repair diesel generators, and fixtures, using test equipment, hand tools and power tools.
- To diagnose malfunctioning electrical systems related to diesel generators, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Be able to identify correct parts/spares to source for repairs on generators.
- To do connections of wires, load cables to or other components.
- To inspect diesel generators, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with current regulations.
- To test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- Conducting field visits in the case of an emergency or sudden breakdown even after hours as per standby schedule.
- To perform diesel generator preventative maintenance inspections as per company procedure and check list, completing job card and entering all abnormalities on the job card.
- To perform diesel generator minor and major services as per company procedure and check list, completing job card and entering all abnormalities on the job card.
- To perform generator load testing and mains failure testing as per company procedures, clients request and do site commissioning as well as decommissioning
- To perform installation and testing of diesel generator remote monitoring devices.
- To perform programming and fault finding related to diesel generator controllers (clear alarms, set parameters and download log etc.)
- To perform administration duties such as completion of job cards, logbooks, completing company applications, preparing technical fault-finding reports, and ordering supplies and equipment.
- To undertake personal professional development activities and attend statutory training as required fulfilling your duties.
- Ensure company asserts are always in good condition.
- Complete inspection checklist on Generators, vehicles, and any other company equipment.
- Ensure communications on all company platforms, taking pictures, updating on groups on time with time stamped camera pictures, providing ETA and updates frequently and resolutions in job cards daily.
Required qualifications and experience:
Minimum requirements and qualifications
- N4-N6 Electrical certificate
- Diesel Mechanic Trade Test Certificate
- Electrical Wiremen’s license
- At least 2 – 3 years of experience as the Technician in a generator manufacturing environment
- Valid driver’s license & preferable code 10 license with PrDP being advantageous.
- Must be prepared to work shifts, public holidays, and weekends.
- Willing to travel between the regions in the country and the neighbouring countries (SADC) .
- Experience in working with DEEPSEA, Lovato, Comap, datakom and Intelligence controllers.

Compensation: Competitive salary package based on experience
