About Us
Medcop Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited (“Medcop”) is a Medical Doctors’ cooperative with business aims to pool member resources together for the purposes of providing affordable financing to Doctors practicing in Zambia and investing in viable business ventures, with particular inclination to health sector projects. Established in 2017 under the Registrar of Cooperatives, Medcop has grown beyond being a self-help innovative group of professionals that works to uplift Medical Doctors’ socioeconomic welfare, to impacting the communities it serves through job creation, health service provision and corporate social responsibility. The mantra of Medcop is, “My brother’s keeper” symbolizing the Cooperative’s belief in home grown solutions to address Zambia’s peculiar
economic challenges.

In its quest to attain its objectives, MedCop has partnered with three other established organizations through joint ventures aimed at providing health services to the Ndola and Lusaka communities as well as virtually through telemedicine. The Cooperative therefore seeks applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill up the following
positions:

1. General Medical Doctor (Part-time)
Position: One (1)
Site: Virtual
Type: Consultancy

Job Profile:
The successful applicant shall be responsible for answering medical consultations virtually, providing a medical opinion and determining appropriate course of action
for the patient.

Duties & Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Take medical history and develop patient case via audio call
  • Establish provisional diagnosis
  • Initiate treatment or course of action
  • Follow-up response to treatment
  • Refer patient to a physical health facility pro re nata
  • Upload a summary of the patients’ case into the system database

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications: The candidate must possess;

  • MBChB, MBBS, MD or equivalent
  • Fully registered and licensed to practice.
  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate or equivalent
  • Be able to operate a mobile phone, tablet, computer or any other gadgets provided with proficiency.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written
    communication
  • Able to write and comprehend detailed medical reports
  • Ability to handle confidential information ethically and with integrity
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • MedCop Membership will be an added advantage

2. General Medical Doctor (Full-time)
Positions: Two (2)
Sites: Lusaka (1) and Ndola (1)
Type: Full-time Two (2) Year Fixed Term Contract

Job Profile:
The successful applicant(s) shall be a resident general medical officer attending to walk-in patients and treating common ailments, while appropriately linking complex cases to respective specialized care.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Clinically evaluate patients and investigate them appropriately
  • Make a diagnosis and institute a treatment plan
  • Monitor response to treatment and rehabilitation
  • Refer patients to appropriate specialist care pro re nata
  • Enter patient data and keep records
  • Provide leadership in the clinical set-up
  • Supervise support and allied care workers
  • Provide linkage between clinical care team and Administration

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:

The candidate must possess;

  • MBChB, MBBS, MD or equivalent
  • Fully registered and licensed to practice.
  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate or equivalent
  • Must be computer literate
  • Possess good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written
    communication
  • Able to write and comprehend detailed medical reports
  • Ability to handle confidential information ethically and with integrity
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • MedCop Membership will be an added advantage

3. Nurse In-Charge (Full-time)
Positions: Two (2)
Sites: Lusaka (1) and Ndola (1)
Type: Full-time Two (2) Year Fixed Term Contract

Job Profile:
The successful applicant(s) will oversee and supervise the provision of nursing care and support services in the hospitals of interest in order to accord optimal quality care to patients.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be required to:
(a) Safety and health of others

  • Ensures adherence to safety and health regulations
  • Develops protocols to streamline services and guarantee provision of high quality health services
    (b) Responsibility for Hospital Resources:
  • Enforces judicious and prudent use of hospital resources.
  • Supervises supply chain entries
    (c) Level of Authority and Decision Making:
  • Makes decisions relating to employment and working schedules of nurses and support staff in the hospital.
  • Oversees and provides overall supervision of nursing care and support services.
    (d) Management:
  • Provides leadership.
  • Contributes to policy formulation and implementation strategies in
    management meetings.

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications: The candidate must possess;

  • BSc Nursing or equivalent
  • Postgraduate qualification in Midwifery is a must.
  •  Full Grade 12 Certificate or Equivalent
  • Fully registered and licensed to practice.
  • At least 8 years post-qualification work experience.
  • Must be computer literate
  •  Ability to produce analytical nursing care reports.
  • Ability to express oneself fluently in English.
  • Ability to handle confidential information ethically and with integrity
  • Must be empathetic and possess good interpersonal skills
  • Must have good negotiating and change management skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
