CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FOR TRANSLATIONS
CONSULTANCY TO UNDERTAKE: Translation Services for Seven Zambian Local Languages.
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST: NGOCC/EOI/15/11/24/ADV
1. INTRODUCTION
The Non-governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC), an umbrella organization for Non-Governmental, Faith-Based and Community Based Organisations in Zambia, has actively championing women’s empowerment and gender equality. In its over 38 years of existence, NGOCC has become the focal point of the women’s movement in Zambia with a total membership of 111 who are spread across the 10 provinces of Zambia.
This assignment seeks to hire a team of translators in seven Zambian local languages namely: Lunda, Lozi, Bemba, Nyanja, Tonga, Luvale, and Kaonde for the 23rd NGOCC General Assembly to be held on 22nd and 23rd November 2024 at Andrews Motel, along Kafue Road in Lusaka.
1.1 The objective of the Consultancy:
The overall objective of the Consultancy is to offer translation services during the 23rd NGOCC General Assembly.
1.1.1 The specific objectives of this Consultancy are:
a. To eliminate language barriers during the 23rd NGOCC General Assembly
b. To ensure all participants can express themselves in any Zambian local language they are comfortable with.
2. COMPETENCIES
- Excellent translating and writing skills in Lunda, Lozi, Bemba, Nyanja, Tonga, Luvale, and Kaonde.
- High accuracy, consistency and faithfulness to the spirit, intent, style and nuance of the original text with a good grasp of the subject matter.
- Knowledge and mastery of gender-sensitive language and translation.
- Ability to use all sources of references, consultation, and information relevant to the text at hand.
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in translation
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain adequate speed and output volume.
3. Composition, Qualification, and Experience of the Consultant (Team)
a. Minimum Diploma in translation, modern languages or a related field, or equivalent
b. A minimum of 5 (five) years of experience in translation in Zambian languages
c. Must have experience in translation in Zambian Conferences
d. Must be comfortable with using translation equipment.
e. Must have a good command of English.
4. Application procedures

- List of relevant similar assignments or actual outputs from similar assignments.
- A simple costed proposal showing the consultant’s planned approach to the assignment and proposed payment schedule.
- Any other relevant supporting documents.
