The Role
The role supports the planning, monitoring, and reporting of construction activities for On Call Africa’s healthcare infrastructure projects. The role offers practical experience in construction oversight, ensuring alignment with organizational and government standards, and contributing to the delivery of impactful healthcare solutions.

Responsibilities and Tasks

Engineering Compliance and Deliverables:

  • Ensure project outputs and deliverables align with project goals and GRZ standards.
  • Assist in organizing and overseeing engineering activities to meet set objectives.

Project Proposal Review and Collaboration:

  • Contribute to reviewing healthcare infrastructure elements in project proposals.
  • Work with On Call Africa and partners to ensure designs meet both organizational and GRZ requirements.

Project Specification and Design:

  • Study and interpret infrastructure designs to determine project specifications.
  • Confirm performance and quality by reviewing designs and ensuring correct implementation on-site.

Monitoring and Coordination:

  • Maintain project schedules by monitoring progress, coordinating activities, and resolving issues with partners and stakeholders.
  • Participate in site inspections to verify compliance with organizational and national standards.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare and analyze project status reports, collecting data and summarizing trends to recommend actions.
  • Maintain an updated project database, including entering, organizing, and backing up data.

Safety and Cleanliness:

  • Enforce safe and clean working environments by adhering to project procedures, rules, and regulations.

Support and Contribution:

  • Assist the project team in other construction-related tasks as needed to ensure the successful delivery of objectives.

Expected Deliverables:

  • Regular, detailed progress reports with data-driven insights and recommendations.
  • Accurate and well-maintained project documentation and database.
  • Contributions to the resolution of site challenges and the improvement of implementation processes.

Flexible Working:

  • OCA works with remote rural communities, and staff are required to camp out in these communities when delivering on assignments. Field Staff are expected to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends as may be required by work assignments.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:

  • Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent
  • Recent (2023/4) university graduate in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Foundational understanding of construction processes, standards, and project management.
  • Proficiency in Computer Aided Designs (CAD) software, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and data entry.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, travel to project sites, and work/camp out in rural settings.

Desirable:

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Work experience not a disadvantage.
  • Valid driving license with at least 2 years of driving experience (added advantage).

  • Communication: Ability to articulate findings clearly to diverse audiences.
