About the Position

Under the overall guidance of the Senior Scientist, the incumbent will assist in carrying out project activities including field works, database management and analyses, training, meetings and workshops.

The Person

The successful candidate will:

  • Assist in carrying out literature reviews.
  • Help collect survey data (quantitative) and qualitative data for projects as assigned by the Senior Scientist.
  • Help with quantitative and qualitative assessments as assigned by the Senior Scientist.
  • Assist in the collection of other types of data including monitoring data that may be required during project implementation.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of systems for data capture, storage, retrieval and analysis of projects.
  • Assisting the M&E&L (Monitoring & Evaluation & Learning) Coordinator set up project M&E&L system and databases and develop tools to monitor and evaluate progress achieving the key outcomes indicated in the Results Framework.
  • Assisting the Office Administrator set up the workshops with partners and private companies.
  • Assisting Scientists and Research staff and Consultants carry out specific research to inform the design of key project activities, especially research to integrate youth and gender into project activities.
  • Assisting the Communications Specialist to develop initial communications outputs for relevant project.
  • Carrying out other tasks as determined by the Project Leader and Manager during the course of the internship.

Requirements

This job might be for you if you have the below skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Economics, Business Degree, Aquaculture and fisheries or its equivalent. An equivalent higher education and/or experience in rural development is a plus.
  • Ability to think clearly and analytically, setting priority, meeting deadlines, solving problems and making timely decision.
  • Strong research methods skills.

  • Excellent quantitative skills.
  • Ability to draft research concepts, reports and publications.
  • Relevant working experience in aquaculture/fisheries and/or rural development, with proven experience in project implementation, monitoring and coordination.

  • Proficient in English language both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SSPS, STATA, NVIVO.
  • Ability to research, plan, implement technical program related to your work area.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.

Benefits

This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position and WorldFish offers a competitive remuneration package including comprehensive benefits (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, 15% employer provident fund contribution, paid leave and others. The duration of the contract will initially be for a three-year period with possibility for extension, depending on funding and performance.
