Introduction

Restless Development is a global non profit agency. We support the collective power of young leaders to create a better world. We are independently registered and governed in nine countries (India, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, UK, USA, Zambia and Zimbabwe) bound together by our vision for youth power. We run youth-led programmes to tackle the issues that young people care about the most as well as running a growing global Youth Collective.

Project Overview

Restless Development in collaboration with BMZ and KNH is delivering the Nyenyezi/Intanda ”Stars” project which aims to establish safer communities in Central Province by reducing gender-based violence and empowering young people, particularly girls and women, with skills, knowledge, and support systems. The Nyenyezi project aims to directly target groups from communities that: (i) practice harmful cultural norms and (ii) have limited access to basic services such as education, health, social services and the justice system.  The direct target group comes from rural, peri-urban and urban areas that (i) depend on small-scale rain-fed agriculture, (ii) work on a farm and (iii) are involved in small-scale trade. The Nyenyezi project targets Young women (19-24), school-aged children (10-18), local authorities, traditional leaders, and GBV first responders. The Nyenyezi project is a two-year Gender Based Violence project funded by BMZ and Kindernothilfe (KNH) and is being implemented in Kapiri Mposhi, Luano and Ngabwe districts of Central Province in collaboration with stakeholders such as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Community Development and Social Services as well as Traditional leaders.

Restless Development is implementing the Nyenyezi Project, a community-driven initiative aimed at reducing gender-based violence (GBV) and promoting gender equality. As part of this project, we are adopting the SASA! (Start, Awareness, Support, Action) methodology—a comprehensive approach that addresses power dynamics to prevent violence against women and foster positive change.

We are seeking an experienced consultant or organisation to provide specialized training to Nyenyezi Project staff, enhancing their capacity to implement the SASA! GBV approaches effectively in target communities.

Objective of the Training

The purpose of this training is to build the capacity of Nyenyezi Project staff in the SASA! GBV approach, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to apply this evidence-based methodology in their work. The training should empower staff to mobilize communities, address power imbalances, and create safe, supportive environments that prevent and reduce gender-based violence.

Scope of Work

The selected training provider will be responsible for the following:

  1. Training Needs Assessment: Conduct a brief assessment to identify specific training needs and tailor the SASA! curriculum to meet the Nyenyezi Project’s objectives.
  2. Customized Training Design: Develop a training plan that covers core components of the SASA! methodology, with a focus on practical application in community settings.
  3. Capacity-Building Workshops: Facilitate interactive workshops that build knowledge and skills in areas such as community mobilization, GBV prevention, addressing power dynamics, and supporting survivors.
Ongoing Support: Offer mentoring or follow-up sessions post-training to support project staff in applying the SASA! approach effectively.
  4. Monitoring & Evaluation: Develop tools to assess the effectiveness of the training and report on participant feedback, learning outcomes, and recommendations.

Eligibility Criteria

Qualified candidates must meet the following criteria:

  1. Proven experience delivering training in the SASA! methodology or similar GBV prevention frameworks.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of gender-based violence, gender dynamics, and community-led interventions.
