Reporting to: Maintenance Supervisor

Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Rigger.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will be responsible for assisting in the establishment of preventative and responsive maintenance and development within Process Department and the site. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Carry out maintenance activities assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor in accordance with safe work procedures(SWP)
  • Assist to carry out structured routine safety inspections in cooperation with maintenance Mechanical supervisors and Co-ordinators.
  • Align, level, and anchor machinery.
  • Attach loads to rigging tools and equipment to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
  • Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
  • Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls, gin poles, gallow frames and other equipment.
  • Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use and ensure they are cleaned
  • Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools.
  • Manipulate rigging lines, hoists and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment, ships, or theatrical sets.
  • Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the work area both during and after completing a job. This includes returning used parts to stores, rotables & equipment’s to designated areas

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Craft Certificate in Rigging
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in maintenance of Fixed Plant Equipment and associated infrastructure preferably in the mining industry or a mineral processing industry role.
  • Able to read, and understand reference maintenance manuals.
  • Experience with inspection and reporting of defective Lifting Machinery, Lifting Equipment, Lifting Accessories
  • Have a good understanding of rules and regulations as regards to Lifting Machinery and Accessories.
  • Maintenance of all lifting equipment and appliances.
  • Have excellent management for all Rigging equipment and maintain the records.
  • Experience in working with big cranes e,g. 450T
  • Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)
