Sable Zinc Kabwe Limited- Roan Copper Concentrator is a Ndola based Mining Company owned and operated by Jubilee Metals Group Plc, an Industry leading in processing and metal recovery business. The Company seeks to employ suitably qualified, experienced and result oriented individuals to fill up the positions of Senior Metallurgist, Shift Foremen and Central Control Room Operators.

1.0 Senior Metallurgist

Overall Job Purpose

  • Ensures that all the process parameters are implemented in order to produce products which meet the required specifications
  • Inspects equipment and systems weekly in order to identify areas of improvement and spot any faults which may limit the efficiency of the equipment or processes and recommend for corrective action. Ensures the effectiveness and the availability of the laboratory and plant measuring equipment in order to monitor the products quality
  • Monitor quality, safety and efficiency of control systems in the production line in order to meet customer requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assimilate knowledge gained into appropriate format, and build competency knowledge base
  • Understand, analyze and improve the effectiveness/efficiency of existing treatment plants as directed
  • Manage/Co-ordinate R&D project activity per assignment area or interpreted strategy
  • Conceptualize, evaluate, and develop new supporting systems for treatment plant as directed
  • Understand requirements to ensure that the R&D applied addresses the plant needs
  • Communicate effectively to all stakeholders including but not limited to peers and management

Key Requirements;

  • Grade 12 Full Certificate.
  • At least eight (8) years’ work experience in metallurgical work
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical/Chemistry/Metallurgy or its equivalent

Skills/Abilities:

  • Computer literacy is a requirement – Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Conceptual, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to interface with production teams
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail are critical.
  • Good communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required, including weekends and holidays
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

2.0 Shift Foremen

Overall Job Purpose

Manage and supervise the effective execution of all production activities during respective shift to ensure seamless and efficient operations within the Production department.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the execution of SZL’s production plan.
  • Ensure all production equipment are operated in accordance with standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor control process units at every point in time.
  • Supervise casual staff to ensure all conveyor belts in the unit are clean and free from jamming.
  • Ensure plant operators wear appropriate safety gears during operations.
  • Coordinate all production staff during respective shift to ensure uninterrupted activities at the plant.
  • Prepare detailed shift reports for the attention of the HOD.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the HOD

Key Requirements

  • Diploma in Chemical/Chemistry/Metallurgy or its equivalent
  • At least five (5) years’ work experience in metallurgical work
  • Member of Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)

3.0 Process Controller or Central Control Room Operators (CCR)

Overall Job Purpose

  • Monitor various sections of the production line from the Central Control Room (CCR) to ensure precision and adherence to standards in the concentrate production process.
  • Provide relevant information and direction to Plant Attendants and Operators in the production line based on monitored operations in liaison with the Shift Coordinators.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing company’s approved production plan.
  • Monitor and control all sections of the plant process lines to ensure stable equipment operation, employee safety and compliance with prescribed standards and environmental regulations.
  • Log in process data at specified intervals; document and report operational activities accordingly.
  • Ensure smooth operation of the parameters by providing constant feedback and relevant guidance to Shift Coordinators, Engineers, Plant Attendants and Operators in the execution of field work.
  • Operators and Attendants of failures, potential failures or trouble spots and provide direction for problem solving.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot potential operating problems, either in consultation with Shift Coordinators, Engineers and the Section Head or independently when immediate action is necessary to ensure production resumes.
  • Continuously review the plant automation system and make recommendations for improvement based on leading practices.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Shift Coordinator.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in any science/engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of two (3) years relevant work experience in the same field
  • Member of Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)

Skills/Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of copper concentrate production process
  • Good knowledge of relevant parameters and standards applicable to copper concentrate production.
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to pay attention to details
  • Good interpersonal and relationship management skills
