Job description

The client is an integrated mid-and-downstream oil and gas operator operating from Zambia. From roots in bulk imports, the client is consolidating its position and developing a retail footprint through multi-product service stations. The Head Operations position reports directly to the MD of the Retail company, with dotted reporting to the Group Head Operations. The position is responsible for the operations of the filling stations.

Key requirements

  • At least 10 years Oil and Gas experience of which at least 5 in Operations
  • Proven track record in Operations Management
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing operations system, processes, and procedures
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong resource planning skills
  • Strong financial management and budgeting skills
  • Internal client management skills
  • In-depth understanding of process improvement and optimization disciplines, tools and techniques
  • Strong ability to balance between long- and short-term objectives
  • Demonstrate strong intrapreneurial skills
  • Proven track record in change management
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication, and influencing skills
  • The incumbent should possess experience in operations in the industry. Possession of a bachelor’s in Engineering, Project management and/or a Business degree, will be an added advantage

Responsibilities

  • Direct the operations of the stations to meet the budget and financial targets
  • Coordinate with the various stations (Sales, Operations) to challenge and facilitate integrated Business Performance management.
  • Lead and direct short term and long-term resources planning, annual operations budget development
  • Establish performance goals, KPIs, responsibility matrix for the operations
  • Provide technical direction and guidance, as well as hands on operations management for all programs
  • Maintain database of all equipment and operational assets of the company and ensure a good culture for all fixtures and equipment at the stations.
  • Develop the operating system, governing policies, processes, and procedures for operations of the stations.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance, as well as hands on operations management for all stations.
  • Analyse data and perform variance analysis between Actuals vs Budget and flag issues that may have impacted on the performance of the station.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of the industry including challenges and opportunities in the sector
  • Securing compliance at all stations
  • Understanding and performing various processes, such as dewatering, separation, and fiscal metering
  • Keep and update legal and regulatory documents regarding the filling stations of the company such as Fire Service Permits, Council and Business Certificates.
  • Design training programmes for forecourt staff, station managers, technical and operations team members and ensure that operational standards are kept at the highest possible level and strictly adhered to.
  • Developing and monitoring the operational expenses
