Job Title : Senior- Research Assistants (1 Positions)

Duty Station : Kitwe

Role purpose:

Save the Children is part of the Abt Associates consortium that is implementing the USAID Systems for Better Health (SBH) project in Zambia. SC is conducting an HIV linkages project that is focusing on reducing loss to follow-up and interruption or discontinuation of treatment among HIV positive children and adolescents, improving access to diagnosis and treatment services, and improving patient tracking and case management, including access to social services, between the health facility and the community.

The project commenced in 2017 and the HIV Linkages Activity will end in December 2018. To this end, Save the Children will be conducting an End of Project documentation of achievements and lessons learned.

Save the Children seeks to engage 1 Senior Research Assistant and 2 Research Assistants to support this End of Project documentation. The duration of this assignment is expected to be 10 working days.

Key areas of accountability for Research Assistants/ Senior Research Assistant

The Research Assistants will work under the direction of the Principle Investigator, HIV linkages Activity Manager and Senior Research Assistant. The Senior Research Assistant and the Research Assistants will be responsible for the following;

  • Arrange and facilitating Focus Group Discussions and Key Informant Interviews
  • Taking notes during focus group discussions
  • Assist in collecting data during Focus group discussions using various data collection tools.
  • Responsible for ensuring correct data is collected
  • Keeping record or inventory of information obtained during data collection.
  • Assist with proof reading, editing and writing of verbatim scripts
  • Collaborating with other Research Assistants and supervisor to discuss key findings and lessons from the data collection exercise.

Additional roles for the Senior Research Assistant

  • Manage the interview process
  • Organize the qualitative scripts in readiness for analysis
  • Assist the Principle Investigator with preliminary analysis of qualitative data

Qualifications and experience

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • Certificate in research methodology preferably qualitative research.
  • Minimum of a diploma in any social sciences
  • Computer skills will be added advantage,
  • Minimum two (2) years’ work experience in participatory evaluation methodologies including note taking.
  • Fluent in Bemba
