Save the Children International

Save the Children International (SCI) is the world’s leading independent organization for children. We save children’s lives; we fight for their rights; we help them fulfil their potential. We work together, with our partners, to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.

The Zambia demographic and health survey (ZDHS) of 2018 estimated an overall reduction in the under-five mortality rate from 75 to 61 per 1000 live births and the infant mortality rate from 45 to 41 per 1000 live births, between successive DHS surveys. However, in the same period, there was an estimate increase in the neonatal mortality rate, from 24 to 27 per 1000 live births. This sent a signal that they were some bottlenecks in the implementation of the proven newborn interventions, while continued attention to interventions beyond the newborn period is still required if Zambia is to meet the 2030 SDG target for under-five mortality of no more than 25 deaths per 1000 live births.

Save the Children International, Zambia Country Office now invites proposals from reputable and qualified consultants to conduct a comprehensive review of the WHO generic standards for improving the quality of care for children and young adolescents in the health facilities and adapt the standards to the Zambian context, including indicators that span the full range of Quality of Care (QoC) for newborns and young children, as well as develop/adapt the Pediatric and neonatal death audit tools.
