Supply Chain Manager Emerging Markets


Main Job Purpose:

The Supply Chain Manager leads the Supply Chain in Zambia and is part of the Leadership team. The SC manager is responsible for customer service, gross margin delivery, quality and all other Supply Chain activities in Zambia. The Manager is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for the Supply Chain Team

Key Accountabilities:

1. Lead and Champion the Zambia S &OP

  • Improve business forecasting and planning and ensure that a rolling 24 month forecast is maintained
  • Input to business financial forecast; cash up
  • Support delivery of innovations and brand / category plans
  • Reduce forecast error and bias and the associated costs of poor forecasting and planning
  • Improve stock availability
  • Input to SU RCDSR and capacity planning processes

2. Deliver World Class Customer Service

  • Improve customer case fill and dispatch rates
  • Leverage scale by embedding Emerging markets CSE operations into the UltraLogistik Africa control tower
  • Improve cost, lead time and quality in logistics

3. Improve Gross Margin

  • Reduce Business Waste; eliminate unnecessary additional handling / shipping / labelling
  • Engage SU’s and Product Group teams to improve sourcing; TP’s, MOQ’s and Lead time
  • Drive simplification; SKU portfolio & complexity; input to sourcing strategy; pack harmonisation

4. Improve Quality

  • Deliver CRQS in Zambia
  • Support and monitor 3PM operations and distribution network
  • Ensure products comply with relevant statutory quality, safety and labelling requirements etc (e.g. expiry date and language labelling)


  • Lead the Zambia SC CBP program and talent pipeline improvement.
  • Champion improvements in reducing waste and improving efficiency

6. Represent Supply Chain on the Leadership Team

  • Business partner the VP and be the single point of contact for SC
  • Manage all end to end SC activities that impact on Zambia and ensure that the country is well represented in cross category, cross functional decision making and strategic planning processes; be part of a network that ensures coverage in RCLT / GCLT; RCDSR and sourcing strategy decisions; quality networks; safety networks; logistics and procurement networks

7. Interface with Customer / Distributor Supply Chain teams

  • Work with Distributors and MT / Wholesale SC teams to deliver JBP’s and operational improvements to enhance service, quality and reduce cost in the SC network

Professional Skills:

  • Degree in Purchasing & Supply/Materials Management or related discipline
  • Logistics, Supply Chain (APICS, etc) qualification an advantage
  • SAP APO and SAP ECC experience
  • Experience in Multi National FMCG Supply Chain (Planning, Customer Service, Logistics)
  • Commercial acumen
  • Cross functional business process knowledge
  • Fully Operational on Demand and Supply Planning; Customer service operations; Project Management
  • Working knowledge of SC Finance; SC strategy
  • People management
  • Have an indepth knowledge and understanding of warehouse management principles and practice as well as understanding of Procurement and Contract management principles and practice
  • Must be eligible to become a Member of the Zambia Institute of Purchasing & Supply (ZIPS).

Experience Required:

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Supply Chain operational role of which at least 3 years must be in an operational role in planning and / or customer service operations.


FMCG experience


  • Regional Modern trade, wholesale and appointed distributors in all Emerging market countries and markets – on stock availability, quality and lead time and other SC issues
  • Freight Forwarders on arranging shipments; lead time and cost
  • Customs and trade regulatory agencies in Zambia on product labelling, quality and compliance
