About the role:
The Project Engineer is responsible for overseeing construction and technical aspects of the development of an 84-unit housing complex in Kalumbila. The role includes ensuring compliance with engineering and architectural specifications, supporting the Project Manager in coordinating construction activities, and solving technical challenges on-site. The Project Engineer supports the Project Manager in achieving project delivery in line with required standards, timelines, and budget.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical Oversight & Engineering Compliance
- Ensure construction adheres to approved architectural and engineering plans.
- Verify that materials and workmanship meet quality standards.
Provide technical guidance and solutions for on-site construction challenges.
2. Site Coordination & Execution
Support the Project Manager in daily site operations and contractor management.
Monitor work progress and ensure adherence to the project timeline.
Assist in scheduling and sequencing of construction activities.
3. Quality Control & Inspections
- Conduct regular quality control (QC) checks and ensure corrective actions are taken where needed.
- Maintain accurate records of quality inspections and compliance reports.
Implement testing procedures for materials and structural elements as required.
4. Procurement & Material Management
- Work with the Procurement Lead to ensure materials meet specifications and are delivered on time.
- Verify material quantities required for various work phases.
Minimize material waste and ensure efficient use of resources.
5. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all construction activities comply with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations.
6. Reporting & Communication
Provide regular progress updates to the Project Manager.
Maintain site logs, inspection reports, and technical documentation.
Support the Project Manager in preparing regular reporting materials.
Desired Skills and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Professional certification or registration as an Engineer may be an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of construction experience.
- Experience working on large, formal projects preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of construction engineering principles and building materials.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., AutoCAD, MS Project). - Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Attention to detail and a proactive approach to site challenges.
Compensation:
Performance-Based Incentives: Completion bonuses based on project meeting budget and timeline targets.
Housing Allowance: Provided for the duration of the project in Kalumbila.
Transport & Site Allowances: Covered for work-related travel.
Contract Type: Fixed-term contract for the duration of the construction project (with potential for renewal based on performance and future projects).
