HEALTH AND HYGIENE  – INTERN – SCALED UP WASH PROJECT

CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

The Territorial Head Quarters (THQ) of the Salvation Army in Zambia (TSA Zambia) through the Territorial Commander has spearheaded community development projects that have included water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) interventions. It is now implementing the second phase of the Switzerland supported WASH Project in three districts in the Southern part of Zambia namely Kafue, Chikankata and Mazabuka for three years from 2022 – 2025. A suitable individual  is required to take up the position of the HEALTH AND HYGIENE  – INTERN for a period of 1 Year.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Develop a health and hygiene behavior change communication strategy for TSA Zambia
  2. Lead capacity building activities on health and hygiene
  3. Document key lessons, approaches and practices on health and hygiene
  4. Monitor the implementation of health and hygiene activities in operational districts
  5. Networking
  6. Reporting

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Train WASH and Council staff in hygiene behavior change (HBC) approaches
  2. Train community champions in HBC approaches
  3. Facilitate trainings and demonstrations in schools on personal and environmental hygiene including toilet use and hygiene practices
  4. Facilitate setting up of school-based hygiene/sanitation education promoters
  5. Lead setting up of school general health education programmes
  6. Promote inclusion of MHM into school curriculum
  7. Facilitate training of teachers in health and hygiene and MHM
  8. Promote local manufacturing of re-usable sanitary pads and use
  9. Facilitate setting up Menstrual Hygiene clubs in schools
  10. Produce policy briefs and case studies on health and hygien
  11. Coordinate with Ministries of Health and Education, Local Authorities, NGOs and Traditional Leaders

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Advanced certificate or Diploma in Public Health, Social Work, Development Studies, Sociology or any other related field
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar position
  • Knowledge of the WASH health and hygiene approaches such as PHAST and PHHE
  • Knowledge of community participatory approaches
  • Knowledge of MHM approaches
  • Knowledge of Rights Based Approaches to advocacy in WASH
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Familiarity with WASH sector policies, approaches and practices
  • Being a salvationist is an added advantage.
