Grade CEC6 | Contract Type Permanent | Location Kitwe

This role is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the power market including market coupling and technological development of the market platform and its products and services; forecasting, planning and advising power traders; and planning and arranging for wheeling path in the interconnected system.

Key Accountabilities

  • Forecasting of solar and IPP generation in liaison with relevant experts.
  • Provide an accurate record of power trading for internal and regional power forecast.
  • Remain abreast with changes in the power demand of end users in the region and availability of power from suppliers.
  • Conduct daily and monthly reconciliation of both internal and external energy flows.
  • Keep an updated schedule of planned system maintenance which affects the wheeling path/supply status and ensure monthly update of possible adjustments to wheeling paths or power supply schedule.
  • Planning and arranging for wheeling path in the interconnected system.
  • Provide an accurate record of power trading for regional power forecast.
  • Make decisions or recommendations guided by compliance requirements, company policies, procedures, rules, or management.
  • Produce transaction reports ensuring compliance with all regulatory rules and internal risk requirements.
  • Provide data for relevant report preparations in relation to all key accountability areas such as weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis as required.
  • Be abreast with contract agreements with suppliers, wheelers and end users.
  • Ensure structure of various transactions as well as terms and conditions of agreements are well kept.
  • Ensure operations are in accordance with the provisions of the contracts agreements.
  • Report all contracts which are within one (1) year of expiration for possible renewal.
  • Make decisions or recommendations guided by compliance requirements, company policies, procedures, rules, or management.
  • Trending demand and supply forecast.
  • Trending of power trading performance.
  • Trending of power system performance.
  • Analytics of customer demand and projecting of demand.

To be considered for this role, you will be required to have:

  • Minimum; Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Statistics or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the SAPP markets is an advantage.
  • 4 years of experience in the power markets.

Specific Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of financial analysis, valuation models, market analysis, and general problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with focus on accuracy, validation and problem solving.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills to be able to work efficiently and effectively using large volumes of data.
