JOB TITLE: MECHANICAL PLANT TECHNICIAN

Wartsila South Africa (Pty) Ltd – Zambia Branch (Ndola Power Plant) is looking for a Mechanical Plant Technician in our Maintenance department to join our team.

Location: Zambia, Ndola

Position Description

  • Maintain and operate the plant during the shift according to company policies, procedures and operation profile/plan.
  • Recondition, overhaul and sub-assembly engine and auxiliary equipment components.
  • Carry out inspections of all mechanical and pneumatic equipment and take corrective actions when needed.
  • Comply with all safety regulations (including isolation, lock out and tag out) and perform emergency procedures in order to protect personnel and equipment in case of damage or failure of safety devices.
  • Ensure that the area, machines, auxiliary equipment’s and tools are kept in good and clean condition.
  • Create work reports according to guidelines.

Education

  • Bsc Degree in Mechanical Engineering or any equivalent technical course
    Experience
  • Two (2) years’ experience in Operations/Maintenance of a Power Plant
  • Medium speed diesel engine technical training

Desired skills and working knowledge of:

  • Charge air system
  • Compressed air system
  • Cooling water system
  • Emission reduction system
  • Exhaust gas system
  • Injection support system
  • Lubricating oil system
  • Steam system

Professional, Engine & Technical Knowledge

  • Measurement equipment
  • Computer literacy
  • Mechanical plant condition and efficiency monitoring
  • Scheduled maintenance
  • Technical drawings and flow charts
  • Trouble shooting
